BAY RUM THURSDAY Razor - Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements - Double Open Comb Ascension (316L Stainless Steel Adjustable) (1/8th turn) Blade - Astra Superior-Platinum *6th Shave Shave Brush - 20mm GBS Synthetic 3rd generation Lather - Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements "Clásico Bay Rum" Deodorant - Generic Baby Powder Post-Shave Balm - Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements "Mysterium Serum" Fragrance/Aftershave - Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements "Captain Smythe's Reserve" (Oak Barrel Aged Bay Rum & Leather) I've been doing Bay Rums on Thursday since I can telecommute from home on Thursday & Friday. For now, while it's still cold, I enjoy most Bay Rums. I'm trying to use them every Thursday while the weather works with the scent profile. I've cycled through all my Bay Rums except the Captain Smythe's Reserve. Time to give it it's first wearing. ***EDIT - Another great shave with the PAA Ascension Stainless Steel razor. First time smelling Capt Smythe's Reserve Bay Rum. The leather is clearly the same leather note that's in his Tombstone scent. The Bay and spices are more reserved while the leather is more prominent. Also, the sweetness is dialed way back in the Bay Rum portion. So, it's not an obvious Bay Rum scent and clearly is an attempt at something original and not just another "Bay Rum". IMO, you must be a fan of the kind of leather that a saddle smells like. Very prominent, and fresh smelling leather with no animal-like tinges. Very sterile leather scent with the Bay leaf and light rum lurking a good distance behind it.
Thanks Tommy! It's not easy to capture the grain in a photo but I got the angle just right in that one! Sent from my Galaxy using Tapatalk

New February Favorites!! February 6 Razor - 1946-'47 Gillette Aristocrat Blade - (1) Soap - Stirling Sheep Brush - 30DC LE Post - Nivea Original Balm I did some playing around with the Kampfe Star, reloading the blade to check Fuzzy's theory that I didn't have the blade seated right last night. I do believe he diagnosed it. That makes me feel a bit better about the disaster of a shave that followed, if only because it proves it wasn't only my lousy technique on the shave. However, my face is raw enough today that the Star will have to wait a few days while I smooth things back out. So, I switched to one of my favorite combinations. I call it the "detente setup" because it's classic Russian steel with a classic American Gillette razor. And, since 500 Voskhods arrived to shore up my dwindling supply, the Voskhod was a given. (By dwindling, I mean I was under 500 actual Voskhods....panic time). I chose Stirling Sheep to give me an extra slick and protective kick from the mutton tallow and used the LE brush to work up a lather worthy of a demo video. I only went two passes, and discovered that, yes, my neck is quite tender when it comes to a razor at the moment. Ended with a DFS and only used the Nivea to follow in order to keep things smooth and healing. A good shave, if I do say so myself. I'll give it a couple of days before I go back to an SE razor, just to give my neck time to heal up a bit more. This setup, though, is definitely a favorite, and with the Stirling Sheep it's become even more of one. Have an awesome Thursday!

Quick Wednesday SOTN I was planning on a shave with the GC and personna blue blades - that'll have to wait. I got home way too late from work and have to be up early so a quicker shave was needed. Quick and mostly irritation free (one nick on the angle of my chin, my fault for rushing). Otherwise I feel great and am headed off to bed smooth, refreshed, and relaxed. I'll be replacing the cartridge for a future shave though. Sleep well and have a great Thursday. Josh Sent from my LYA-L29 using Tapatalk

Tabac Thursday's Shave Cold Water Wash Tabac Shaving Soap Jayaruh #326 Micromatic Open Comb Gem Blue Star CS SE CWR Tabac AS My prep was just a cold water rinse. The Tabac Shaving Soap face lathered well with the Jayaruh #326 synthetic horse brush. I did two passes with the Micromatic Open Comb razor with a Gem Blue Star CS SE blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Tabac AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
