  1. SOTD February 8, 2019
Alphabetical journey through soaps and creams
    Fat Friday detour

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: Schick
    Razor: PAL Adjustable
    Brush: Omega 10049 boar
    Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Post: Witch hazel, Fine American Blend aftershave

Nice shave this morning. @Linuxguile graciously let me try this PAL Adjustable after some failed earlier attempts with that razor. Today's shave was smooth and comfortable. My technique has definitely improved but I need some more time with this razor. The angle is different than the Schick injectors. But, nice shave in the end with terrific Fat lather and a wonderful finish from Fine American Blend.

Furthermore, I was able to spritz on some actual Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche thanks to the enormous generosity of @Keithmax who sent me some from Seoul. This is the best thread on the internet.

    Have a great day everyone!

That brush always catches my eye, Rick! Very nice.

    Great shave, Neal!

Very nice setup, Gary! Didn't realize you had Stirling Gentleman as well. What do you think of the scent? We had a little discussion on here yesterday about it.

  10. Thank you, Clint! We have a friend from Austria in town (long story) so Alice and I are taking her on a brewery hop tonight around Birmingham. We're meeting another band director friend and his wife. My mother in law is here too so she's going to keep Wilson. Very much looking forward to that as this week has been a little long....

RazoRock 400 Noir Plissoft Synthetic Shaving Brush
Salsa Bowl / Timeless bowl scuttle
Murphy & McNeil – Trinity, sample
CVS SE blade – 4th shave
    Gem Feather Weight
    Nivea Aftershave balm
    Pinuad Clubman Classic

Forth SE shave for this month and the first with the Feather Weight. Totally different experience with the FW vs the Shovelhead. The FW seems to be a little smoother and not as aggressive. It gave a nice shave with just a slight touch of alum burn. I would not even call it a burn but more of a warm sensation. The FW is definitely a light razor compared to the Shovelhead on the Weber bulldog handle. I was careful to not apply any pressure to the FW because of its weight.

The Murphy & McNeil soap performed great and gave a nice slick cushion for the Feather Weight. Great scent as well.

Finished up with some Nivea and Clubman classic.

Overall it was a great Friday morning shave and I will give the Feather Weight some more attention in the future. They are great razors!

Y'all take care and have a great Friday!

Day 5 with the Long Comb. Another smooth, easy shave with this combo. Once in a while a ‘if you could keep only one razor’ thread or a close variant shows up on the forum. This morning I’d answer this one, as this razor could definitely be a daily driver for me. Love the scent of L’Orange, this CL pairs well with it, and the big Omega is one day closer to being broken in.
I think I’ll move on to a favourite Injector for next shave.
    Have a great day, all!
  13. Edit- forgot to mention above that the knots I ordered from China (on Jan 29th!) on eBay came in Wednesday. Less than 10 days from Asia, absolutely amazing. Two 28mm flattops- one in Tuxedo colouring and one in the same look as APShave Co flattops. The tuxedo coloured one definitely has less loft than the other by a good 4-5mm.
I wanted a 28mm knot for the other beehive I made, and ordered an extra for whenever.
The handle is more of a barrel shape than a true beehive, I think, but does have the more traditional beehive type ribbing. I want to try this knot for a bit, but this one I may move along as I’ve already got a beehive in the same wood:

  15. I’m not typically a beehive kind of guy, but that sure is a beautiful one, Jason. Your lathe workmanship continues to impress!
  16. Great combo, Gary. Very cool seeing all your different British Gillettes. Awesome. And Gentleman? You, sir, have arrived.
Great pic, and I definitely hear you on the Friday and politics comments, Jim!
Sounds like you got a great deal on a razor you enjoy, Clint! Congrats on that and the great looking pic as well.
The Supply I got to try for a bit from @Screwtape was in that same Black Matte finish. Very nice.
Very cool gear, Perry. With a bottle of Rive Gauche on hand now, do you have an opinion on how close Fine got their American Blend to it?
That Featherweight looks pristine, Danny. Very nice.
  17. Follow up on yesterday. I would agree that I focus in on using different parts of the straight blade Four different parts of my face throughout the shape. However in the two areas of my neck that are difficult to get to switching from toe to heel in this area has definitely made an improvement in the closeness of my touch up pass there. Still not BBS, but getting there an inch at a time.

In other news, I’m guessing the GD Ambrosia is less than a week away from giving up the ghost.
  18. It is rare, but sometimes I leave the "invisible stubble" on my neck. I feel as long as my face is prepubescent smooth than it is a good shave. My beard is almost white so the stubble doesn't show too much which allows me to do it every once on a blue moon. Realistically, it comes down to what we want in a shave that is dependent on different social functions and employment that we partake.
  19. That sounds like a fantastic weekend. Swati returns on Sunday evening so I’m playing bachelor again this weekend.
