  1. As long as Louisiana is not in @mrchick's sales territory, you should be OK, Rick. He cleans out antique shops like a swarm of locusts strips a grassy field. :D

  3. By stretching the skin in the opposite direction of growth, you're standing the hairs up for a clean cut. If your blade angle is correct, skin surface is flat, and you're using no pressure...the blade cuts the whiskers cleanly with absolutely no cuts or irritation. You're just using the blade edge to "wipe off" the properly hydrated hair and lather. Once I started doing this, it dramatically improved my shaves. (In fact, you must stretch your skin when using an open blade razor like a shavette or straight razor...or you risk a major blood letting.) Blades and razor selection will matter much less after your master this technique. I try to keep my off-hand busy during each stroke by stretching the skin...take a look at how this guy does it:

This was another helpful video for me. It illustrates how to the take short, light strokes...this was another eye opener for me.

You're making great progress. Keep at it!

  8. SOTD February 12, 2019
Alphabetical journey through soaps and creams
    Letter S

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: Schick
    Razor: PAL Adjustable
    Brush: JR #142 black badger
    Soap: Stirling Piacenza
Post: Witch hazel, Stirling Piacenza aftershave

Stirling continues with Piacenza. Wonderful citrusy and soapy scent. Very enjoyable and the lather was outstanding as usual. Still fiddling with the angle of the PAL but I got a nice shave. The angle isn't a typical injector angle, or least an atypical angle works well for me with this razor. Smooth and comfortable all around.

    Have a great day!

  10. Excellent photo Perry. I think you’ve used injectors so much the angle is imbedded in your muscle memory. Since this one is different it’ll take a little time. I’m sure you’ll figure it out.

  11. February 12th
    Razor: Blackland Dart
    Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux (2)
    Brush: WWB/Envy Supreme White
    Pre-shave: Stirling Mentholated
    Soap: A&E Cafe Au Lait
    Lucky Tiger face tonic
    PAA Star Jelly unscented
    AS: A&E Cafe Au Lait

    Good morning!

Excellent three pass shave to start the day! BBS with silent alum. When it comes to silent alum the Dart just works for me. Love this razor.

Doubling back into the alphabet to pick up the last few stragglers brings up Cafe Au Lait. I really don't smell much coffee off the puck, mostly cocoa. My sniffer may be sensitive to that scent. The aftershave on the other hand has a wonderful slightly sweet coffee scent. There is an ingredient in both that causes a slight tingling sensation. Not so much that I'll discontinue use, but it is there.

    Have a great day![IMG]

  20. Thank you, Clint! I agree with your analysis. I need to go back to a Schick and check the angle on it to make sure I don't forget! But my technique has definitely improved in the past couple of years.
