Thanks Patrick! I reported at 10:00am and was released at 11:30. The defendent plea dealed. It was the easiest of my 3 jury duty appearances. Now, I can enjoy the rest of the day.
I was on my first jury about three years ago. We had jury selection, jury seating, the full trial, deliberation, and verdict all in the same day. We were done about 4:45. It was a silly insurance case that shouldn't have made it that far. Involved a car wreck and a lady suing HER insurance company because she felt like they didn't pay her enough. Not sure how it made it to trial. Regardless, I did my duty and found it very interesting.
Day 40. Not my best day. I tried going some different directions than usual, and didn't work so well. Got a couple of weepers, and the alcohol stung but good when I was done. Oh well. So my repertoire of "don'ts" just got a little bigger.
Yesterday, I stated that I went through my entire shave gear. Well, I have to make a correction because I did not use my entire gear. Lol! I just received a pre-owned Böker King Cutter 5/8 round point on EBay for under $80. That's almost half the retail price on a new one! It is in great condition and is shave ready. The only defect is a gray/black stain on the back face of the blade. Personally, that's not a big deal, especially at the price point of my deal. I will shave with it tomorrow. Now, I have 7 traditional straights. That is one for each day of the week. Here is my new addition to my den:
Well, now that I promised to make no purchases until after my birthday(May 1)-Clubman, Maggards, and Williamsport Bowman Barber Supplies are throwing discounts at me....it's all about Valentine's Day. They all look interesting, but I don' NEED anything just yet. But y'never know...I did kill off my NB18 after all!!
Thanks Danny! I have been very fortunate on getting very good deals on EBay for my 2 vintage and 2 pre-owned razors. I paid $315 total for those razors which is $79 per razor. They were all in excellent to mint condition except my 100yr old Engel razor. I rated the Engel razor in very good condition. However, they were shave ready when they arrived. I certainly have no complaints.
A major lesson I've learned since being a member here, I'll tell you that right now(oh, I just did!lol).
Robert, that still is a good shave day because you learned that what you did wasn't right at all or for now. Sometimes, trying a new way to shave doesn't work because you don't have enough experience to do it. In my case, I wasn't able to do an upside-down backhand stroke with my straights until quite recently. Now, I am still relatively new to straight shaving with only 46 shavette and 35 traditional straight shaves for a total of 81 in under a 4 month span. Whenever, I couldn't do a maneuver, I stopped and tried again at a later date. When I tried the maneuver again, I was able to do it because I had more experience straight shaving. Now, in your case, it might be that the action you did was totally wrong or you have to put it on the shelf for another day. This is the true art of straight shaving.
Thanks Andrew! I have been very fortunate on picking up great deals for 4 of my straights on Ebay. I am definitely done for the year. I want someone else to do well on Ebay. Lol!
A famous quote reads "There's always tomorrow if you had a bad day today". I forget who said it though.
