February Favorites!! February 14 Razor - Muhle R41 Blade - (1) Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat Brush - Jayaruh #312 Post - Alum Happy Valentine's Day!! From the silence in here I'd say a lot of guys have dinner and other things going on to stay in the good graces of the better halves out there. Well-played, gentlemen, well-played! We don't pay too much attention to V-Day here. Actually, we had dated back in 2005 for about six months, broke up, and reconnected in 2010. By total coincidence the first "date" after starting to talk again was a lunch on Valentine's Day 2010. We both laughed at the fact that we had no idea it was that day until we were in the small cafe in a small Illinois town where she lived and a few other couples had cards and such. Guess cupid worked that day though, because here we are 9 years later. I moved onto the next favorite for the month with the Muhle R41. I've only had a few shaves with it but instantly loved it. Me and my aggressive razor thing. The Sharp Star brought the best of Russian Steel to the shave and I stayed with the Fat. The JR312, synthetic horse brush, worked wonderfully with the Fat. Seriously excellent lather and as easy as Arko. Three passes, the baby is in the house, alum mostly silent and all's well. I'm off tomorrow, as we are having the President's Day Sale this weekend so I have to work Monday. I'll be headed out in the morning to GrubHub until the predicted snow drives me back home. Hope you all have a great Friday!
Special delivery today as a package arrived from Indiana. That's not quite as normal around here as packages from Russia but it does create fewer questions from the mail carrier. (Recently received 3 Russia packages over 2 days and our carrier seemed a bit flustered). Inside the box - an absolutely perfect and gorgeous 1955 (A4) Gillette Red Tip Super Speed, complete with a case in the best shape I've seen, a pack of Blue Blades and an extra pack of Pal blades. The sender of this beauty? Why, none other than @Primotenore himself. This is one of the razors he was clearing out since he has gone to the dark side and I couldn't resist when he showed me pictures of it. I'm more than thrilled to have it. I have only had the Flare tip SS and 40's versions as well. Never a blue or red tip. So this was a great opportunity to grab one in far better shape than most. It is completely original, including the paint on the tip. I've been whistling Mozart ever since I opened it, so apparently he sent some operatic inspiration as well. I'll be giving this a trial run in a few days. By the way, if you ever need anything packed, you might want to give Joseph a call. I've never had a package packed so well as this one. I wish I had pictures of me going through the layers of bubble wrap, shredded cardboard and everything else!
After a long tiring day it was a quick and simple shave.. basic tools to get the job done. Job well done i might add.
And.....one final note for this evening. I was asked to do a review for Moon Soap (moonsoaps.com), specifically their Havana soap. I received the sample today along with a full puck of their Old School soap. I plan to shave with the Havana soap Sunday through Wednesday next week, using a badger, boar, horse, and synthetic brush to give them all a shot with it. I'll post up shave reports as normal and follow up Wednesday with a complete review of the soap. I think there are some others involved in this as well so you may be seeing reviews popping up around TSD. I will say I found the initial "sniff" of the soap to be interesting. Happy to be able to give it a shot and see what it does.
