I won't lie. Taking a razor to a 1000K Naniwa Specialty Stone gave me pause.
I told myself, this is not an R. Saito $350 razor. It was an Ebay purchase that didn't break the bank by any means.
Worse comes to worse, I send it off to Glen, head in my hands, and get it fixed.
Mitchell's Wool Fat, my own concoction, a Captain Black Pipe Tobacco infused soap.
You have all heard the story, so I am not going to re-hash it again.
MWF, when used seldomly, really demands a good blooming. So, naturally I bloomed the heck out if it.
This I have said before, but it bears repeating. After face-lathering the Fat, I like to massage it into my skin.
It pushes the air out and makes the lather more stabile, imo.
First pass with the Red-Injun. Not a very PC name for a razor, I must acknowledge.
Results...great. Sharp cutting and pretty darn smooth. I like it.
Second pass has developed into a partial, left-right, right-left from about the middle of the cheek to the goatee.
I then rinse and re-lather and do an upward pass from the Adam's Apple to the jaw and to under the goatee.
Final pass for me is now an ATG pass on the cheeks.
Today's shave was as close on my cheeks and jawline as I ever got using a DE razor.
I still am not going to chase the baby on my lower neck and I am not sure I ever will.
I simply don't care enough to try...right now. Maybe someday. Maybe.
I guess this old opera singer can hone a blade after all.
Finished with what I consider the best AS and ASB that Douglas Smythe ever produced.

Back in November, I did a focus on Tech razors and shaved with roughly 20 different ones, covering most of the common versions and a couple of mashups. One of the stranger ones was this one from the 21 November shave:

It is a pre-War style Canadian Tech with a ferrous baseplate and a bakelite handle normally seen on French market sets of the era. At the time, our collective guess was that it was probably a military-issue razor but was a correct set. Last night, however, @BBS (who is quickly becoming our resident expert on wartime Gillette razors) posted a copy of this advertisement from 1944:

Look familiar? At this point, I'm inclined to say that I have one of those limited supply civilian ones.

On a side note, I love the wording of the final part of this ad: "Men who have no razor or need old ones replaced should be given first opportunity to buy. The limited supply of Gillette Tech Razors available prompts our request for this traditional Canadian fair play." Canadian politeness at its finest.

As for the shave... two days of growth effortlessly removed with no issues or irritation. The last time I used this razor, I was a bit concerned about it being slightly more aggressive than my other Canadian Tech, but I didn't notice anything today. Just blue birds over the White Cliffs of Dover...

Today was a quick one pass shave as I had to be out the door an hour earlier than normal. Close enough to pass for work and comfortable, albeit not the most pleasing shave.

I was in desperate need of removing four days of beard growth last night before bed. So I went for a quick two pass shave after my shower. Soused the TFS Soap while showing and then had a quick load and face lather with the Stirling Boar. The RazoRock Mentor is about equivalent to 8 or 9 on a Fatboy so a two pass Wtg/Atg left me setup nicely in DFS territory.

The scent profile of Mastro Miche is quite long and I don't pick up any of it. What I do get is vetiver and oak moss. Performance is good enough to get the job done. This is one soap that I will be moving out of my den before long I think. Have a great day my friends!

Good afternoon everyone! I wasn't going to shave today, but I am going to a ladyfriend's house for a homecooked meal at 5 pm, so I wanted to look presentable. I decided to use my VDH tto razor, my Rockwell brush and Stirling Sandalwood soap. @Moose, I only did one pass to get a near BBS shave and ended it right there. Yes, I could have gone for the baby smooth shave, but I felt I didn't need to today. I only needed one pass because yesterday I straight shaved and really could get away with 2 days in between shaves, instead of one. Finished with Pinaud Clubman AS. This is my example of choosing what I want to accomplish for the shave. Again, don't worry about what others do with their shave. Your shave ability and the sense of what type of shave is needed will improve with experience. Have a great afternoon everybody!

Be very careful with the rides, though. We rode two rides for giggles many years ago and still can't get the songs out of our heads. I'll sing either one of these songs now, and it becomes an instant joke. One was a ride featuring Eastern Airlines at Disney...If you had wings had wings had wings... The song repeated the same lyrics for 4 minutes, and my brain has continued for the past 35 years. The other was It's a small world after all at Kings Island...oh my, now I am ruined for the day. The best plan is to stick with the killer roller coasters. Intense fear and blackouts will prevent any long-term memories.

Seriously, Disney is a blast. I've been there once with a buddy in college and twice with my Bride. If we return, it will be in the off-season when most schools are in session.

Thanks, Charlie! We love it. Wilson went with us last year when I took the band. We had to stick with the itinerary and were somewhat constricted due to it being a school trip. He's a year older now and will love it even more. He loves the Toy Story movies and they just opened a Toy Story Land within Hollywood Studios. It'll be magic for him.

We went in 2012 with my previous school's band, then again in 2014 and then last year. It's expensive but a lot of fun. Really looking forward to it.

My wife takes her band every couple of years to DisneyLand as well, Perry. We went as a family a few years ago on spring break. I hadn’t been since I was 9 years old. Fun at any age. I have never been to Florida, but I assume the parks are similar.
Charlie- I had ‘Its a Small World’ in my head for about two weeks afterwards as well...

It's a magical place. I think the locations are similar but perhaps Disney World in Florida is bigger. I've never been to Disneyland but would love to go sometime!
