I'm sure I've seen this exact topic before.

But gel over foam here in the UK.

I’m not a fan of either since switching to soaps. I preferred gel prior to discovering soap.

I used to use both back when I hated shaving, so they both leave a bad taste in my mouth. "Neither" should have been a response option.

Neither. I haven't used either in around 4 1/2 years. My vote is for either shaving Soap, or shaving Cream.

I preferred shaving gel to shaving foam before I switched from cartridge razors to safety razors. Now, on the rare occasions I do use a canned product, I prefer barbasol shaving foam.

If I went back to canned lather it would be gel. The gel performed better for me and seemed to last longer. I used Gillette Edge Gel .

Barbasol Extra Moisturizing SC for me when I have to shave at 3am for work. Works great with my boar brush, and injector razor.

With gel you massage the soap into the hairs to get foam, so i used to prefer gel.

I donated my shaving gel and foam as i discovered classic soap and cream.

Get yourself a stick of Arko, a tub of Proraso, and a tube of Palmolive. Then post a new survey.

I used both and gel seemed to work a little better for my shave and I liked to buy Gillette if I was looking to restock when using my Gillette cartridge razors.

Here I go kicking the hornet's nest as I wade into this conversation. Answering the initial question of this post I will say foam. My reasoning for this is gel comes out of the can a dry and thin, creamy product. You then apply it to your face and rub it in. The water you already applied to your face is taken up by the gel and converted along with air into the foam that gel turns into. Canned foam on the other hand comes out of the can as is (expanding into a fluffy product from its included ingredients) and ready to go. You apply it over the water you already applied to your face create an additional layer of protection from your blade. Less water is absorbed by the foam so more is on your skin to protect from shaving. Is it better (kicking another hornet's nest) than gel? I say yes. The gel takes water off your face to create its protection. Foam, on the other hand, lays another layer besides the water of skin protection.

This would be my answer as well. I still have a small travel can floating around here somewhere.

    Very good question.

I have used Trac II cartridges many times, but never with shaving gel or foam. The choice of razor does not dictate the soap or cream.
