Oh, and then there are the odd parts like the gold pre-War and gold post-War baseplates sitting on my desk because I don't have any spare caps or handles. (Anybody need a gold baseplate in decent shape?)

You're very welcome and thank you. As I understand it, however, @BBS is about to write what may be the definitive post on WWII-ear Techs.

For the 1st time in a long time , I'm at a loss for words to describe this shave. After 2 1/2 days of suffering migraine and flu I mowed down the hair and reclaimed my real estate. My first time using a 1914 but wont be my last. Borrowed the handle from the 1912 but gf's Dad and I are going to fire up his lathe and make a new one.
I'm over 100 posts behind so I'll just congratulate everyone who took beautiful pics and posted reports in this post. Great job guys.

Clint, how do you shine up your 400 handles?

I use Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish. It keeps the handle shiny as well. Be sure not to get any on the knot. I use painters tape to tape on a plastic bag over the knot. On this brush I might have to use some wet sandpaper to get the lines out of the flutes. ( you can notice the lines in my photo) If its required on this handle I think I can start at 800 and go up to 3000 grit. Honestly it is just me being a touch OCD after polishing so many Rubberset 400s.

Paul, you and your buddy each ate 1.25 cubic feet of pizza! I bet you had a rough night and next day. It reminds me of a local pizza place here in my neck of the woods.

Thanks Clint. I look forward to seeing your new 400 all dolled up.

I've used Happich Simichrome Polish on razors and other items with good success. Watch guys sometimes use Cape Cod Metal Polishing Cloths to remove light scratches and swirls on watch cases and bracelets with mirror finishes. I've also seen guys use Scotch-Brite Pads to restore brushed finishes.

In the old days before Sapphire watch crystals became the norm, you could remove the scratches on a watch crystal with 400 grit sandpaper and Simichrome polish.

Patrick, I hope you are feeling better. It doesn't get much worse than having a migraine and the flu. Congrats on the nice shave. I bet that felt good. I can't wait to see your new handle.

I updated the limo. It holds more and is much more maneuverable on city streets. We are good.

Unfortunately I will have no time to play this week. I’ve looked through Merz’s windows after hours on a past trip. I’ll get there someday.
