Yesterday we took the high speed train, KTX to Gyeongju rented a car and visited at 500 year village, Yeong Deong village, 양동마을. I thought we go inside the homes but people are still living in the homes. Some are now restaurants and some B&Bs, it was interesting to see the homes still being living in. My friends warned me their accents would be hard to understand but my woman’s father is from the region so she has a similar accent.

I will report about the shares and update today’s adventures tomorrow.

Razorines are fairly priced - $40 for brass and $50 for chrome - but I'd rather have a Parker SRX for $25. I could see myself having an oops with the Razorine's small handle. It would never be a daily driver for me.

Monday, Monday.....
Alarm was not set so got up a little late.
No real problem, just some quick moving.
Insparation from @brit (Gary) and the vintage Gilettes.
Sandalwood bath soap, shave soap, after shave baulm and a 1906 three piece Gilette with a new Feather blade.


This mornings shave was smooth and close. Being a quick shave you would think it would be poor looking or a hack job. Well it was neither, I got a close, smooth, clean shave with no issues. This razor is a dream to use being over 100 years old. I am personaly surprised, not the first time I used it and not the last. I like to shave at least 3 times with a razor I like, so maybe Thursday I will get a different one to shave with.
The next 2 days I will be enjoying this wonderful relic of a time long since past.

Carl, I'm sorry about the rough shave with the Slim. Your DE shaves will absolutely improve. Once you neck recovers, give it another go.

Hopefully by now you've mapped your beard. Stick with WTG shaves until you feel comfortable with the Slim. Call it a day after two passes. You can then begin to incorporate XTG and maybe even ATG strokes with time...and maybe even a third pass if that's your thing. Paying attention to the basics makes all the difference. Make sure your face is well hydrated and that you have taken the time to build a nice lather. I had to learn to use more soap or cream to get the cushiony and slick lather that I needed for a great shave.

Remember to use no, nyet, nada, zero, zip pressure, and watch your angle so that the blade edge is not dragging...we call it riding the cap. Ideally the blade edge is parallel with and just above the flat skin surface. Taking short, slightly overlapping strokes is helpful. In general, you don't want to shave bare skin. Envision that you're using the edge of the blade to gently wipe the lather off of your face and neck. You can learn a lot by listening to the blade cutting the whiskers. Turn off the running water, listen closely, and you'll begin to hear when the angle is right.

Change your blade after no more than 3 shaves. Blades are cheap, so there's no use trying to compensate for a dying blade edge. It sounds like a lot to think about, but believe me, it becomes automatic with time and practice. My two-pass shaves today are better than the four-pass shaves when I was starting out.

If you don't mind watching men in their underwear shave , check out the first video. I found it to be very helpful when I started out. Mantic has mastered the art of using correct angle, no pressure on the blade, and short and slightly overlapping strokes. I also included a second video. I'm not a fan of using shave oil like this gent, but he knows how to stretch his skin (his off-hand is always busy), and he takes very accurate and efficient shaving strokes. Hey, unless you need to scratch something, your off hand should always be stretching skin...even if you're making those funny shaving faces. The more you stretch your skin, the better your results will be.

Great news for you and your family, Danny. I was sorry to see the tragedy and destruction from yesterday's tornadoes. This is something we deal with here in Kentucky fairly often in the spring. My Bride is always after me to get to the basement during severe weather.

Ya know, using a DE razor is different than the carts. I was right where you are bout a year ago, man oh man it was rough, until...
I figured out that unlike the carts, the angle of the blade is very importaint. Also when these guys say use a light touch they mean it. You can't run a DE blade over your skin like a cart, carts are a whole lot duller.
It does take time to learn the way but it will give you a great shave after you get it down.
I like to ride the cap, this helped more than any other thing I did.
May I suggest this...
1 find out how to ride the cap, and do it.
2 for a few weeks, only do one pass top to bottom every shave.
3 enjoy shaving, if it's something you want/have to do. Might as well make it enjoyable.
