As a result of the replies to my post yesterday in the "safety razor" forum, my aged mind kicked in gear and I recalled purchasing a RR Old Type OC last year with a bulldog handle. My query concerned a crack in the faux ivory handle on my EJ DE87 which led to the sleeve moving on the shaft. It was suggested I get a bulldog handle. Seems I had one! Also noticed the Zamak gremlins had made some inroads on the top & bottom plates of the EJ. Hey! It was a good 10+ year run. EJ now retired.

When I tried the RR Old Type last year I found it to be way too mild compared to my Fatip Grande and RR German 37 slant so I shelved it. It is fine however, for shaving the neck and cheek areas around my beard. Used it this morning and am pleased with its performance.

    Mongoose b2 razor - Maggards MR8 handle
    Maseto 30mm 2band brush
    B&M Cheshire shaving soap
I completed the shave with a splash of T+S Shag aftershave, which provided a perfect dose of patchouli.

    Saturday SOTD

I'm always cautious with the Gem MMOC considering my sensitive skin, but I had almost 3 days of growth so I thought I'd give it a go. Plus I wanted to have a few SE shaves since I was back home. After reading about using a slightly used Gem SS blade instead of a brand new one to make the shave a little less aggressive, I figured why not?? Results were excellent! No weepers and little to no feedback from the alum. I think I'll use the same setup tomorrow. This scent of TOBS is one of my favorites overall. Have a great weekend everyone.

    Razor: General SE (Str8on2)
    Blade: Feather Professional (1)
Brush: Los Tres Amigos Dos Simpson Chubby 2 Synthetic LE Jade
Soap: Stirling Soap Company Eucalyptus Mint
A/S: Stirling Soap Co. Eucalyptus Mint

Received a very generous use of a General for a few weeks from Gus (@Str8on2). Very heavy razor which I like with a very wide head. I don't mind that either. First shave was great. This was going to be my St. Patrick's Day shave, but one of my sons are coming over for an early breakfast with his 3 kids and I want to look sharp. :)
The Simpson Synthetic LE Jade whipped up a great lather for a 2 pass with a clean up for a near BBS.

Have a Happy St. Patrick's Day.

Too funny, reckon all our collections have their exceptions, special piece or two that defy expectation and earned their place, and some things I suppose too for sentimental reasons. As for the aroma, I've made it a practice to break-in my new brushes in borax powder and white vinegar soaking, the let drain and bowl lather with a small amount of scent-free hair shampoo, then back in the soak. Do this a few times until it improves, then a couple warm water soaks, drain fling dry and soak again until the knots clean of residue, fling it dry one last time and allow to air dry. Tend to help accelerate the de-funking process.
