March 16, 2019 Razor: Post-War Gold Gillette Tech Blade: Daxton (Family Dollar) (2) Brush: VdH Boar Soap: Stirling Naked And Smooth Post: WH Today's shave was a voyage into potentially dangerous waters, the second shave with a Chinese blade of unknown quality. I was working on two day's growth this time so the first pass was a bit rougher than the previous shave; the blade did not overly pull, however, and reduction was acceptable. The second pass was uneventful. I'd call the shave kind of "Meh!", more of a CCS+ than anything else. I'm not going for a third shave on this particular blade. My two-shave impression is that the Daxton blade is usable but definitely not the sharpest blade. It's possible that it might perform better in a shavette or more aggressive razor, but I'll leave that to more daring folk like Neal. I do think that it is a step down from the Dorco STD-301 that FD formerly sold. I'd be tempted to take them up on their satisfaction guarantee but I have already trashed the receipt and packaging. One final thought on the whole move to the lowest bidder... I noticed this poster while I was waiting at the pizza place last evening:
Nice pic and report, Rick! Congrats on the future grandchild! I'll keep it hush hush. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
Awesome, Jim! Looks like you all had a boatload of fun! You guys are building some really nice memories. Keep sharing these great photos and stories!
Nice shave and photo, Edison. I mostly used my half-DE blades two times in the Parker SRX. I used one half-blade, however, for four shaves with no problems. I never felt like I pushed any of the blades to their limits.
It’s all good, and I will definitely consider that moving forward. I’m just more surprised that the CF and B&M aren’t performing as well as the TOOBS and Caties. It just shows that everyone face and preferences and reactions are different.
