  1. SOTD
Todays shave was my second with the arko shave stick, fantastic shave stick! Definitely becoming one of my firm favourites and definitely going to be in my rotation going forward.
I think its time to replace that dischem brush, it lasted for about 3 months but over the last few shaves its been shedding like there's no tomorrow. I have a second dischem brush i picked up the other day as a spare, but it will probably go the same way after 3 months.

My dad will be trying the credance that Tony sent me later today, he felt how soft my face was after using that stuff and asked me to help him lather so he can give it a try, its an excellent soap skincare wise!

    Razor: Fatip Piccolo
    Blade: gillette 7 oclock (13)
    Soap: Arko shave stick
    Aftershave: old spice whitewater

  3. Nice shave John

"....wondering now if the people who find The Fat "difficult" and search for "the secret" to getting good lather from it simply don't use it regularly enough."

I'm taking this in to consideration, for April.
    Thanks

  6. I typically use a blade for a week in a DE (unless it "tells" me it's done before that). With the shavette, I change them every three days. Maybe another couple of shaves would be fine, however, blades are cheap. For the learning curve, I'd suggest no more than three. Just like learning with a DE or SE, eliminating variables will help focus on technique.
  7. Thanks!

  8. Good Sunday morning to everyone!
The house was quiet this morning so I took advantage of it.
A nice hot shower with sandalwood soap to prep.
A new Feather blade using the Gilette Red Tip I received a few days ago, using it for the first time. Expecting a different kind of feel due to some of the posts I've read in the past, well no. This razor shaves great, no issues or problems. I have been trying to do a one pass with only minor touch ups and today was a winner. Only touching up the chin, I have a smooth clean face and gord today.
Another first is the alum, it was a cool refreshing thing. No burn or itching on the alum. It felt so good I used it on the gord too, different, cool and slick. After a few moments you could feel the tightening up of the skin.
A splash of cold water and then the ASB, nice.
Hope everyone can have such a nice start of the day as I did!

I use a blade one time, then bin ( toss ) the blade.

  10. If you like Arko, it’ll last forever. @Bama Samurai did an experiment on how long you can shave with one stick of Arko. I forget the end result but it was basically almost forever. Be warned, though, if you hang around this group of enablers for long, you won’t be happy with less than 50 or so soaps to choose from. Along those lines, it sounds like you need a good brush. I’d suggest going to Stirling Soaps online, and picking up a synthetic, badger, and/or boar. They are one of the most affordable good quality brushes out there. (Nothing is more expensive than a cheap brush that doesn’t last. Besides, they’re not nearly as enjoyable to use.) The synthetic will be good to go, the badger will be 90% and break in quickly, the boar will take about a month before it’s soft. He’ll throw in a shaving soap sample to try with your order that’ll last about 30 days, too. You’ll thank me later.
  11. Apparently you guys are big spenders. I actually like the second shave on many blades (can you say feather) better than the first. You guys don’t know what you’re missing!
  12. Lol, i have two sticks of arko, 8 soaps and two creams, i bought one soap and the rest including the arko i very generously received as PIFs from the mastershave forum, those guys are extremely generous.
Unfortunately i wont be able to get a Stirling brush, i live in South Africa and those arent available here.

  13. I envy the ones that can get more than one shave from a blade Randy. It just does not work for me, l only use Feathers in the DEs, B-20 and Feather Pro in the SEs and Personna GEM stainless for my SE Star and GEM types.
The second use pulls way to much for me.
    Your just a lucky guy.

  14. I use blades more than once, however a lot more than once! Currently on my 13th use with a gillette 7 oclock Sharp edge, i replace blades when they tug, and this one hasnt tugged yet, so I'll keep on using it.

  15. Coming from straights, I found the edge to deliver easier cutting on a much lighter touch. Quite nice really. I'll take your advice and go with 3 for now. Probably should drive this thing for a month.
  16. Great shave, Terry! Congrats on the new razor.

  20. I have to give the enablers cedit.....without them this would not be possible. Thanks, and if the Karve lives up to its reputation I know I will enjoy it.
