Prep: pre shave soap mix Razor: Wilkinson Sticky Blade: Rapira SS Brush: Maggard 24mm Synthetic Soap: Mike's Natural- Pine & Cedarwood Post: B&M Taigia A/S Had a awesome shave this evening that was about as perfect as could be IMO. Mike's Natural is a soap that is about as local as could be, being made in Ann Arbor and i am from the Detroit area as well. Mike's has been around for years with a soao base that can compete with many of the newer artisans. Scent of Pine & Cedarwood is mostly Pine to my nose and smells nice. Not too strong and is a Natural type Pine scent. Performance is very good and have noticed it likes a wetter brush when loading. Lather can hold a whole lot of water which can push the slickness into overdrive. Flooded out the lather during the 2nd pass without consequence. This was a amazing shave and the Taiga aftershave was icing on the cake and a teriffic A/S formula IMO loaded with skin food and way more ingredients than most aftershaves especially for the price, making this stuff a true bargin IMO. Hope y'all had a great shave!
Today's shave was with a newly Acquired, Restored, and Honed razor. It is american made, from what I can tell. I had a very nice 2 pass shave, that mowed down 3 days of growth, like nothing. Results were a BBS shave, no touch-ups. Excellent razor, I've not seen before. Razor- D'Arcy's Vulcan "7". 15/16th inch. John D'Arcy Company. St. Louis. Brush- JR#262. WD Silvertip Badger Soap- TOBS Cedarwood. Aftershave- Vintage Avon Spicy. Vikings Horn Decanter. ...

March Madness!! March 26 Razor - Van der Hagen (Weishi) Blade - (2) Soap - Soap Commander Courage Brush - Semogue 620 Post - Alum Time to give the Asco its second shot in the VDH razor. Given that it's a Lord blade I'm a bit skeptical on how it might do over three shaves. I grabbed the Semogue 620 boar and Soap Commander to at least give it a nice slick lather to work with. To my surprise it was a rather smooth and very successful shave. I didn't really notice any drag or other issues and the three passes were all great quality and productive passes. Seems like the baby is either here or close enough to call here and the alum was silent, so no irritation issues. Rather a nice shave from a blade that I have rarely used and comes from a less than stellar pedigree. I'll take a break from Mild March Madness one more time tomorrow to jump back into Williams Wednesday! Bet you didn't see THAT one coming did you! I'm in the mood to shake things up over the next few days. Another Williams Wednesday seems like a good way to do that. Submitting my resignation at Mattress Firm seems like another good way to shake things up a bit. I believe I'll try that to. Those big changes I mentioned a couple of weeks ago? Yep. They're starting to take shape. Don't worry. Cartel HQ is safe and sound, and definitely isn't going anywhere. Especially with Arko (adjustable) April just a few days away! Have a great Wednesday!
Phoenix Shaving | John Frum Kent V8 Gem Damaskeene (1914-1915) | Gem Jr. Elite "Ivory" Handle (ca. 1906) Gem PTFE Off the puck, John Frum's bold musk is quite reminiscent of PAA's Black Bot which is an homage to vintage Black Belt. This first blush is not to be trusted as the lather takes a very different path. When hit with a wet knot, John Frum opens surprisingly clean with rather forward suggestions of arid, salty, verbena with wafting notes of linen. Before this bright summery citrus peaks, the aforementioned musk steps in, but at very respectful levels and more refined than the punchy 70s musks. Meanwhile, the dry cotton and bitter lemon transition to an intriguing crushed green vegetation contrasted against sandy vetiver stopping just short of earthy. At this point, the shave is nearing its end, but the fragrance seems to have more to offer. This is precisely why I all but insist on matching splashes, but in the case of John Frum, it is absolutely essential to fully realize the intended fragrance. The splash restarts the bright sandy citrus, but it reveals a previously undetected slightly sweet aspect. The musk is omnipresent, yet still controlled, and even elegant. The green is greener, and the vetiver is less vetiver, but I don't know what else to call it. That interesting salty sand element persists as well. After about 15 minutes, a soft, naturally sweet and slightly powdery note slips in. This fragrance is a complex adventure with surprises, but very well blended. There's simply no contemplation necessary for me. John Frum is immediately a personal favorite, so I've already ordered the EdP.
