    Anybody know if the cap from a New Improved is the same as one from a Thick Cap OT? I've got an extra gold OT cap I'd like to use instead if it won't affect the shave.

    My Bostonian favors the thin cap, 102, not the 102a. The 102a is far thicker than the Bostonian cap.

    I have this coming in from the Bay. I am hoping it is solid brass. If it is I'll tape off the knot and bead blast it to match the finish on the Karve. I may have to re-knot it but the knot may shape up after being washed and hung upside down to dry.[​IMG]

    Interesting... unfortunately, I don't have a spare 102 cap (gold or otherwise) to try.

    I did load a blade with the thick cap just to see how it looked. Apparently, the 102a cap has what could be called too long an arc for the NI head. Basically, it curves the blade down to where the edge is almost touching the comb and is rendered ineffective. (Confirmed by trying to shave some arm hair.)

    Just placed an order for:
    Stirling Satsuma
    Barrister & Mann Behold the Whatis

    I have found that Stirling Soaps are great. It's also great that their soap size is 5.8oz. For me, that represents a good value.
    Barrister a & Mann soaps are simply excellent. Thus far I have a classic base (Classic Reserve), and a glissant base (Seville). This will be my first soap from them using the excelsior base. I'm so geeked!!!!!
