I had a Cub Cadet 1810 for 20 years. I bought the Cub because I didn't want to spend the extra money for a John Deere or a Kubota. I had a mowing deck, trailer, and pull behind lawn sweeper. It had an 18 hp Kohler twin cylinder engine. It was a hoss for cutting grass. I think I could have pulled my house off the foundation with it. It had a few quirks, but so do I. If we had stayed in that house much longer, I would have traded it for a ZTR mower.
The older Cub Cadets like yours were great little tractors. They basically had Farmall Cub transmissions in them.
Bill, my 1st car was a burgundy 78 Chevette complete with roof rack. Bought it from my high school automotive teacher. In the first month i owned it clutch blew out , brakes went ( someone welded rear adjusters) and had to replace floor. Whod a thunk a mechanic would own a car with welded brake adjusters , bad clutch and rotted floors? To top it off his daughter drove this car daily before he sold it to me . On a positive note the car Survived long enough until I bought myself a truck. Blasted alot of AC/DC in that car and man it would spin the tires throughout first 3 gears.
I spent many a hour on ole farmalls. That is a beauty. I miss working with one. Before my Mom passed I worked with her in the garden that her and a neighbor kept. He had a couple of A's and a B with a belly mower. Just plain fun working with them.
Your Mom sounds like she was a very cool lady. She reminds me of my wife's Mom...she always loved to work in her flower and vegetable garden. She canned enough food to last all winter. She could see her garden from her kitchen sink window, and she once shot a varmint in the garden by sticking her shotgun out the kitchen window. The poor little feller didn't know who he was messin' with. She loved a funny story and was always ready for a card game. If you didn't have 50 cents to get in the game, she would give you the money out of a quarter jar she kept. She was a sweet lady. I loved her, and I miss her. Keep telling stories about your Mom. I love to hear them.
Had a 782D. What a hunk-o-junk! Got free and got a used Lazer Z. 72"cut. Lots of ground speed. Don't ever put a snow blower on a garden tractor. Get a walk behind and you will be ahead...... Hours ahead!
They are great tractors. I have been around them all of my life. We have the 100, a Super A, 140, Super C, C and three Cubs. The Cs are works in progress. The offset Farmall could do anything. .....mowing, cultivating , planting, breaking ground and disking. It is amazing the engineering that went into those tractors and the basic of them was laid out in the late 30s.
