  1. Arko Adjustable April

    April 8

    Razor - Soviet Consul (9)
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Arko
    Brush - 30DC LE
    Post - Alum

Another beautiful day in the Lou with temps in the mid to upper 70's, sunny, looks and acts like Spring. Hard to argue with that. And, another great day with the Soviet Consul and Sharp Star. I noticed one of my blade sellers on eBay has the Russian Ideal razor on auction. I've never gotten my hands on one of those. It's the knock off of the Slim, while the Consul is more a knock off of the Black Beauty. I asked him to explain the difference and he wasn't terribly helpful. Says the Consul has a wider range of adjustment and is made in a different factory. Or was made in a different factory. I also tried to tempt him into selling me the razor now instead of waiting out an auction. That idea fell as fast and hard as the Soyuz 1. He did say, however, he has plenty of the Ideal's in stock. So I guess I'll get my hands on one sooner or later.

Anyway, back to the Consul, I went to the LE brush to make Arko easier than it already is and whipped up a quick two pass shave for a very nice DFS. That's great for tonight. Up early in the morning. As in out the door by 7 early. Definitely a change for me. Have a great night and a fantastic Tuesday!

  2. Sounds like they're trying to keep up with us around here. "Last Tuesday's shave" does seem appropriate around here. Here's two cents worth of my brain for you. You know I love the stunt shaving.....I've certainly done my share. And MAYhem tends to bring out the best (or is it worst) in that category. The focus of this thread, though, is technique. This is a place for new guys to break into the hobby and learn how to do it right. So too much of an emphasis on the wild and crazy stuff we do can be counterproductive. However, most of us who stunt shave do so in order to demonstrate that technique does indeed trump tools. Even tools like a blade taped to a finger. I'm not saying I don't like the idea of a "monthly stunt", or something like that for the experienced crew to play around with and help prove technique again. I'm also not saying it's an idea that hits me as necessary. How about some ideas of what some of the "stunts" might be since it's a group effort, apparently. Anyone have ideas? Or yays, nays? I'll convene the Cartel minds to consider all options.

  3. I believe I can second that reply. My preference for tallow soap keeps my cabinet full of Stirling, but there's a Soap Commander in there for those times I want a change.
  4. how about a "blunder of the month.".i did this and this happened ...i try to be optimistic but stuff happens to the best of us.. shows newbies that the experts don't always get right ..just a thought.

  7. Definitely an idea.

  8. Very neat! Also looks like it was a very complex and long-drawnout process to get it done. And then you did the same for the rest of the arm and the chest? Ouch!

  9. I think we already have Cinco de Julio for a one-off and MayHem for an entire month of questionable shaving ideas. A regular monthly "stunt shave" would be a bit too much, especially for a place that is trying to be as large-scale as we can get as a Newbie Shaver Training Centre. But a "blunder of the month" feature/contest would be interesting and quite in keeping with the spirit of the 30DC...
  10. thank you John. keeps everyone here "learning".,even the masters..

  11. Monday evening April 8 - Rule shave #23

Delta Echo refurbished Gillette Fatboy on 4 / Rapira Swedish Supersteel (1)
Simpsons CH2 Chubby Synthetic Bristles brush
    MWF/Kent in beechwood tub
    Polar Ice Booster splash

I skipped shaving on the weekend while I was on call, so my last shave was Friday evening. Three days of stubble to mow. I went with a new Rapira blade for the job and it performed superbly. Two passes without a tug or pull to suggest a blade was even in there as it mowed down the stubble. Absolutely no need to test with the alum.

What I am using this Rule for those who have forgotten what the heavily recycled photo looks like:
    IMG_20190304_100605.jpg

My only regret: I forgot it was Menthol Monday. True, the Polar Ice Booster splash seems to have a dash of menthol in it, but I don't think it's enough to qualify properly as a Menthol Monday mentholated product. Oh well, there's always next week...

Hope everyone is on track for a stellar week!

  12. I always admire that brush. Sorry about the mishap but at least you smell great. Guerlain Vetiver is a big winner in my book. I think I will use it tomorrow.

  14. Haha, yeah it is a really long series. The Eye of the World (first book) at this moment in time, is top of the 'best books I've ever read' list (and I've read thousands).

Yes, the story was finished by a fantastic author called Brandon Sanderson - he is an established author in his own right, and he's a Wheel of Time superfan (he also had Jordan's notes and drafts to use). I've a ways to go before getting to that point!
