My first experience with the Personna Platinum in the red boxes rather than the while plastic tucks (UK Pkg'n), these felt harsher than the UK offering I've previously used, anyone else know if they're truly different beyond packaging?

Rd#3 and just as good as the first 2. Left it at 4 & 5 on the dial, nothing but BBS. Smooth and carefree with perfect blade feel for me. A great evening shave. A wonderful evening and shaves to all....

  10. Arko Adjustable April

    April 10

    Razor - 1959 (E4) Gillette Fatboy(9)
    Blade - [IMG] (1)
    Soap - Arko
    Brush - The Canuck
    Post - Alum

Back to Gillette for the classic American razor - the Fatboy. Staying with Russian steel, a blade I don't use much - the red and blue Rapira Super Stainless, or Chrome blade. Nothing wrong with it at all. Great Russian steel, just doesn't trip my trigger like the Voskhod, Sharp Star or even its close cousin the Super Stainless in pink black and blue. Tenth day in a row for Arko - can I do Arko April or what?! The Canuck for the great synthetic fan knot. I love the SynBad from apshaveco.com .

Three passes just because it was such a great shave in progress and the baby is at hand. Nothing to say about this one but how great it was. So, I'll just say it was great. Besides, I'm tired and have another Doctor to see tomorrow. This is my primary guy who will steal some blood, tell me my sugar is still too high, and we'll see if there's anything else to be done about that. Actually, in a couple of weeks my new insurance will kick in and I will be able to get more aggressive with some of the meds he wants me on. Tell me how this works - you leave corporate America that provides you with insurance - at a high cost and that pays for nothing - and you go out and end up with insurance that is far better and half the cost. Not the way it used to work! But I like it! Have a great Thursday!

  14. Quick Travel Wednesday SOTN

Yeah so, I forgot a brush for this business trip to Philadelphia. Tonight's shave definitely wasn't as good as it could've been... A little rougher than I would've liked with the Arko but okay. I can't complain too much as I was helping to lather with my hand. 3 passes with minimal touch up for an acceptable shave but not the greatest on the neck. I think the Weishi Nostalgic and Voskhod blade did their best under the circumstances... I'll try again tomorrow evening if time allows. Happy Thursday everyone.

Today was the 15th use of the feather, and somehow this things still performing absolutely flawlessly. Fantastic blade, and I'm starting to see that theyre worth the extra cost if you're able to get so much extra use out of it. As usual the Col Conk lathered perfectly and provided plenty of slickness. BBS after three passes, two WTG and one ATG. Felt weird not using Dave's menthol aftershave today!

***EDIT - The shave all seemed great, but there was more irritation than I initially thought. I used the CUBE again today. It seems to add slickness, but doesn't seem to be more protective. So, it seems like, if I want a super-slick shave where I want to minimize the times the razor passes over a spot, then I think the CUBE is the way to go. But for a barrier that protects, the oil seems to be better and allows the skin a little more buffer vs the blade. although the oil doesn't add any extra glide. So, it's a bit of a situation where I have to decide on efficiency vs protection. Neither product renders me bullet-proof to irritation however. A bad set of choices still has its consequences. I used my styptic pencil like an alum block then rinsed with cold water and then put on the aftershave and some Mysterium Serum post-shave balm. After several hours I sprayed on some mentholated witch hazel for good measure. I hope the skin heals the redness by tomorrow morning.
