Bought a Gillette not a lot of people consider as one. Autostrop VC4 branded with the Gillette logo. This one has the case and strop along with blades. Anyone know how to restore these strops?
To clean the strop whip up a nice thick lather with a tallow based soap (Unscented unless you don't mind it smelling like whatever soap you used for a while) and then scoop up some of the lather with a rag or wash cloth and rub it in to the strop to clean it. After you have it all clean let it dry for a day or two and then rub in some neatsfoot oil (or Olive oil) a few drops at a time till the entire surface has a darker hydrated look to it. Let it set a few more days for the leather to fully absorb the oil and then it should be ready to use. If the leather has cracked anywhere you may need to use some sandpaper to smooth it out.
