April 15th Razor: Rex Ambassador N2 6.5 Blade: Gillette 7:0'clock Super Stainless (2) Brush: PAA Switchback/TGN Finest Pre-shave: Stirling Mentholated Soap: Proraso Green Stirling mentholated witch hazel PAA Star Jelly unscented AS: Proraso Green Good morning! Another Monday. The weekend was way too short. It's been a long time since I've done a Menthol Monday shave. Seeing as the Proraso Green has only seen one use it fits my second use soap focus. Great shave to start the day! Three passes with quick touch up. Near BBS with a little more warmth from the alum than usual. Have a great week! Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
Gillette New Deluxe Weber Bulldog Gillette Silver Blue Omega Baby Pro Arko Stick Dr. Sana Bay Rum First shave since Thursday. The first swipe was a little rough, but it smoothed out after that. Two passes for a nice comfortable shave. The sink was loaded when I finished. Enjoy your day.
Thanks, Joseph! The Dovo Shavette is capable of using 3 types of blades. It can use any DE half blade, a Dovo half long blade or a Personna hairshaper as well as a Fromm hairshaper. With the exception of Fromm, I have tried all of those blades and get very good to great shaves. I prefer the Personna hairshaper because it is the sharpest and longest lasting blade. The long blades are almost as long as a straight, therefore, it covers more area like one. Although the Dovo is a little longer than the Personna blade, I find the hairshaper is a better fit for me because as it loses its sharpness, it still gives a close comfortable BBS shave. The Dovo blades dull more quickly and the shave becomes less desirable.
Thank you, Clint! We have a running joke we use when we walk out of here on Sunday nights. "Have a good weekend. See you Monday." Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
Nice shave, Joe. I always enjoy reading your posts and following your straight razor and shavette exploits. I also enjoy the process and the calming effects of daily shaving.
April 15 SOTD: Razor: PAA Bakelite Alpha Ecliptic Blade: Minora Brush: Razorock 400 Lather: CO Bigelow Aftershave: Proraso Green Additional Care: Stirling Unscented PSB It was a nice Menthol Monday shave with the Alpha Ecliptic. I did have a little slip which resulted in a small weeper, but other than that it was a two pass DFS. As always, CO Bigelow provides a nice, slick, cool shave. We'll have to see how this day goes, as I have to admit, I am still feeling a little jet lag. I hope everyone has a great day!
Great shave and photo, Jim. I'm also planning a Menthol Monday shave this morning using C.O. Bigelow. I'm glad you made it home safely, and I hope you get rested up this week. Did you pick up any shaving goodies while you were in Sweden?
Thanks Charlie for being so kind! It is amazing how these companies who make carts and multi-blades have such a stronghold on shavers. I was one of those shavers until I started using my first safety razor which was a VDH and then eventually moved on to my shavette and straights. I am a firm believer of using what is good for anyone, but to pay $30/ month for disposable blades is insane. Unfortunately, there are men who still do.
April 15 - Tax Day Weber DE Feather (3) B-400 by Tom handle w/Envy White Supreme Two-band knot C.O. Bigelow Thayers WH & USB This has been my set up for the last few days, and my shaves have been consistently close and comfortable. I'm about to finish up my current tube of C.O. Bigelow. It is a wonderful shave cream. It lathers easily, is inexpensive, and it delivers a light menthol hit. On the majority of days, I'll splash on some Clubman. I can't do it today, though, as I'll be with my kids. I estimate that my bottle will last another 23 years. I'm glad I tried it, but I won't replace it when it is gone. After this shave, the Weber goes back in the storage rack for awhile. I saved one Feather blade from my current open tuck, and I'll use it in my Parker SRX this week. Then I'll start an extended run of shaves with my Mongoose using Feather Super Pro blades. I hope everyone has a great week.
