At long last I can shave with my SK-3. She just returned for the razor spa, @gssixgun , Glen cleaned up the blade, the scales and put a wonderful edge on it. I have never seen a razor with this much smile have such a thin grind.
Oh my, forgot to label. This is a 100 year old J.R. Torrey "Our 136". This was one of their most popular models. From a 1909 Saturday Evening Post ad: https://books.google.com/books?id=x...KDAA#v=onepage&q=torrey razor our 136&f=false
Being preemptive for Friday's razor. This is a 4/8 shoulderless, carved bone scales, Lewis-Stenger Barber Supply "Venus" Update: The blades performance was perfect.
8/8 Riga Razor Tungsten Steel Had several days of growth .So I picked the Riga Razor for the task. She delivered a near perfect shave .
Saturday Straights' Shave Cold Water Rinse Amalfi Basil Lemon Jayaruh #331 Boar Lee Mfg. 5/8 CWR Pinaud Vanilla My prep was just a cold water rinse. The Amalfi Basil Lemon Shave Soap face lathered well with Jayaruh #331 Boar brush. I did two passes with the Lee Mfg. 5/8 razor and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Pinaud Vanilla AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
This is a 5/8 Demascara made in Fremont, Ohio that I suspect was made by Clauss http://www.strazors.com/index.php?id=382&doc=clauss_fremont_o_u_s_a_4502_
Interesting shave this morning. I’m putting some jnat edges on for a fellow forum member, and one of the razors he sent is a 6/8 Hart, made before Hart was sold. The makers stamped their initials on the obverse tang, and this one is stamped ‘JA’. That was James Arman who ground razors for Hart back then. His wife is Maria Arman, who made the early Maggards soaps, and her Limes and Bergamot is a classic. So today’s shave was with a razor made by James and the soap and AS made by his wife! Maria runs Through the Fire Fine Crafts. 6/8 Hart, Maggard Limes and Bergamot lathered with a TOBS brush, and finished off with L&B AS. Afterwards I cleaned and touched up the razor.
Today's shave was with one of China's finest. I had a very smooth, 2 pass shave, that left me with a DFS. No touch ups, and pretty good, for shaving a three day growth. These razors are made very well. Razor- Chinese ZY. Brush- RazoRock 400, WD Badger knot. Soap- ARKO/Sandalwood scented Aftershave- Pinaud Lime Sec
Koraat 7/8, half hollow: This just back from Glen, @gssixgun , he finished it with a Zulu Grey. I also have a Zulu Grey and well...... I was never able to get the same edge of a Zulu Grey that Glen delivered on this razor. A very enjoyable shave today, including hot lather.
Wade and Butcher "You lather well I'll shave well" wedge, I don't think the scales are original. Most of the ones I've seen are bone. Interesting the washer is no the exterior, but I seen this before. I used tape and honed with films. Now days I touch up with a Thuringian stone.
