So I have been running through all of the Aristocrats in the collection from the Old Type and OC TTO to the Super Speeds and finally the Adjustable. A fine run of razors and each and everyone was enjoyable. Now I will run through all of the Super Speeds I have from 1947-1969 beginning with this little gem. Today’s razor was found by me in the small town of Orono Ontario which has quite a few sizeable antique stores during their yearly antiques fair. It is a lovely 1947 Milord that truly is in nice shape but comes with a great story. When I bought it I was impressed at its condition with most of the finish being in tact and the condition of the case etc. Thought it was a good day until I got it home and behind the top lining of the case I uncovered some history and some neat bits. Inside, the original instruction booklet, price tag, 7 Gillette Thin Blades and 4 Minora Blades new in their wrappers. The Milord is without a date code but I put it as a 47 because of the fully knurled handle and no notch however, it was a present in 48. Inside was the original Christmas tag and on it, part of the stamp with the 1948 date on it. This razor was a gift for Charlie from Audrey and Alice and he took very good care of it Today’s soap of the day was RazoRock American Barber and it really is a fine soap and scent. There are many barbershop scents out there and this one is both affordable and an excellent performer. The matching AS is a fine addition to any shave. A lovely three pass shave was had with a wonderful razor with a bit of special history. Thanks Charlie I will keep and take very good care of it too. Happy shaves all! Wonderful story sir, thank you for sharing! I enjoy the history of these wonderful razors. 71 years ago someone gift-wrapped & gave that razor as a Christmas present. I wonder how the house was decorated, were they sitting in the living room unwrapping their presents. Audrey & Alice were wonderful women to give Charlie such a nice gift.
It really was quite humbling finding those little treasures inside that I doubt the family, let alone the fellow who sold it me knew they were there. It is always special when I use that razor and I always carefully clean everything and dry it off before it goes back in the case and I thank Charlie for treasuring it.
