  2. I thought I'd have some fun with Jeff(Isreali Ambassador to TSD( by saying to him, "You've been using that Plissoft longer than I've been alive", and he came right back by telling me he's only had it for 1 1/2 years. That ended THAT. :).
  3. Well Paul, I don't know. If you look at the Stirling Soap web site it might say.
All I know is I like it.
    Sorry

  5. Well, today we're experimenting with blades. After musing about what kind of stones produced what kind of edges, @Steve56 generously offered to put JNAT edges on a couple of my razors for me to compare and see the difference for myself. Today I shaved the left side of my face with the 5/8 Dovo he sharpened, and shaved the right side of my face with the 6/8 Dovo with a factory edge that I've touched up on a 12K Naniwa. Overall, both blades are sharp and smooth. Too early to tell the difference for me, so I'll be at this a few more shaves. I can tell you that I really don't notice major differences in most DE blades, and really don't pay a lot of attention to which one I load, as most of them are more than adequate to produce the results I expect. I felt a bit this same way about today's shave. Maybe its because I'm not a dark side ninja yet and therefore the subtleties are lost on me. Maybe I'm just not that "blade sensitive". Maybe it's just too early to tell after 1 comparison shave. Time will tell. Again, thanks a TON to @Steve56, as I look forward to more JNAT v. synth comparison shaves!

  6. I have had this one for about four months now and I love it. It is my go to brush. For $22.99 you cannot beat it. Solid aluminum handle with a great knot. Italian Barber is sold out but hopefully they will be getting some more in.

    SR #68

Arrived at the university early, so I am posting this before my first victim...I mean, student.
Premium would be one way to describe today's gear and shave results.
From the rich, creamy and ethereal Eufros, to the luxuriously, soft Super Badger,
continuing with the buttery smooth Friodur and, not to be undone, the
    aromatic, vintage Brut.

    Razor: G3 Aristocrat Adjustable (5)
    Blade: Gillette Spoiler (1)
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
    Soap: Williams
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

A week or so ago, I stumbled into a potentially great deal from eBay- four dispensers with Gillette Spoiler blades.
    IMG_0479.jpg

It was a bit of a gamble, but they are 15-blade dispensers which appear to be mostly full with no used blades in the back. The cost was $1.79 + $4.49 shipping. They arrived a few days ago and, today, I decided to try one.

The particular blade that I chose had a date code of X3 (3Q77). By way of perspective, in the Fall of 1977, I was 16 years old and starting my Junior year at Neptune Sr. High School in Neptune, NJ (Go Scarlet Fliers!). My razor choice is my BQ Aristocrat Adjustable. (I might have to pull out my U1 Super-109 for a true period feel, however.)

My first impression of the Spoiler is that it is a very mild but efficient blade. A Slim at a setting of '5' is not the most aggressive razor but I susally get some sense of blade feel. With the Spoiler, however, there was virtually none. If I had to compare it to a modern blade, my first thought would probably be the Astra SP. Definitely a quality shave with no issues or irritation.
