  1. 2nd shave with the modified and stropped gem carbon steel blade. Much better shave feel wise and no cuts or nicks this time around, the closeness of the shave suffered though. No issues with my face flaring up either. I probably can get another shave out of this blade but it is pretty much done. Either this razor eats up blades quickly or these CVS carbon steel blades just plain old suck for keeping an edge. Less than 6 shaves is completely unacceptable to me for a throw away blade you aren't supposed to sharpen. That is what I get out of Gem stainless ptfe blades or any DE blade.

Tomorrow is the Feather FAS-10 carbon steel blade with this razor.
  2. Stropping the modern blades kills them. Fast. Those CVS blades are awesome. If you drop the stropping they will last. Just have to dry them after the shave.

  5. I had the same problem with a non stropped modified Gem Carbon Steel blade in this razor even though it was modified differently. 2 shaves and it was done. Either way I planned to do 2 passes stropped and non stropped with new blades to see for myself if stropping actually makes a difference with the carbon steel blades.
  6. Congratulations that's a beaut.
    Sounds like a great thread.
I have favourite lookers and favourite shavers and my ultimate favourites fill both categories.
  7. I get about four, or at a push, five shaves from a carbon blade, so usually limit them to three or four.
PTFE blades, seven or eight, nine if pushed but I don't like to push.
I prefer the carbons because the first shave is as smooth as those following.

    Pitralon Classic A/S Lotion

The last time I used this was in my very early SE Shaving days.Prompted to use it again as someone elsewhere wondered how it Shaved.
With a good MWF Lather I found it quite harsh and ready to bite, but apart from a weeper caused by me being cavalier I finished the rest of the Shave unscathed. Got the kind of finish I get from a G Bar but using an OCMM on steroids !!

My prep was just a cold water rinse. The Eskimo Tuxedo Shave Soap face lathered well with Jayaruh #360 Synthetic brush. I did two passes with the TNNSER razor with a Gem Blue Star CS SE blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Osage Rub. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
