May 4 Good evening, guys! I just finished a very late evening shave! It was Dovo shavette shave #61. I decided to use the Voskhod DE half-blade just to change it up a bit. Face-lathered Stirling Sandalwood with my Rocky. Did my usual 2 passes with touchups. Everything was perfect until I decided to do a fool's pass during my touchup round. I got a tiny weeper above my lip. No biggie, I laughed! Styptic pen made it vanished. I produced a beautiful BBS shave. Ended with the Sandalwood AS. @Hembree, Danny, the Voskhod blade feels nice with this shavette. It is a sharp comfortable blade that I would use with my shavette. I was satisfied with its performance using my Fatboy and my Dovo shavette. Result: * Grade 97 = A+ * It would have been a 99 without the weeper. Guys have a great evening!
Thanks, Danny! The weeper was miniscule. Also, I was using a brand new blade so I figured the chances would be high that blood would shed. I am glad that CrustyCat, (Kevin) gave me a tuck with my Fatboy prize because I would have never known about them.
That makes me happy, and I am glad to be a part of that. In the Magic (or any DE based shavette) blade brand seems to mean less than in a DE. How is it for you? What blades do you generally use?
It’s good, I like it better than the Parker SRX I used to have. I seem to have picked it back up with much better proficiency than the last time I used it. I use Gillette Nacet’s in it 95% of the time. I’m getting DFS results without irritation so I’m thrilled.
after my shave today i realised that my shaves have steadily improved since i joined the 30dc. since riding the cap i have found the sweet spots on most of my gillettes and the numerous angles during the shave have become muscle memory..i can now have a quick comfortable shave in the morning before work if needed as my shave times have lessened considerably.still like my longer luxurious evening shaves as well.pre shave is not needed now but still enjoyed..i have even started face lathering again like my older days of shaving..my collecting phase has slowed down but i still like to rescue a long forgotten razor from time to time..my blade choices are med sharp to sharp and comfortable..i also realise most soaps are similar but some have better post shave qualities..quite a learning curve and a very pleasant one i must say. i have no real desire to jump from the vintage gillettes as i get fantastic shaves and have invested a few $$ as well.i thank you all for the instruction, but more so for the encouragement day to day, as one shaves daily (i now can) one improves one shave at a time..just a recap of my progress from when i joined with a focus and now..thank you all..time and money well invested and great people to hang out and share with..happy shaves gentlemen..
Great post, Gary! I also believe that when you share your shave sessions that it motivates you to do better.
How quickly they forget. I used the Feather Pro for the first two shaves with it. It performs well with a good blade. How long will it last? That's the question I think. The finish may not be as durable as it is pretty.
I also like to have back ups. Even if it where possible to have 2 wives I don’t think it’s a good idea, I’ve got my hands full all ready. That doesn’t sound right, she is petite but very feisty. I’m going to stick with collecting razors. A long recovery road for Maya, I hope the strength training resolves the pain.

SOTD: Todays shave was another speed shave using the reitzer perfect shave, definitely a soap which will always be in my rotation, one of the best lathering soaps i have ever used. I could definitely see this stuff being a huge success overseas, especially considering its low price point which cant be beaten. Had one nick today, lesson learnt, when speed shaving always feel around you face for any bumps or blemishes. I didnt apply any pressure but i shaved over a blemish and nicked myself although its all healed up 12 hours later since it was a night shave again. The feather performed well on shave number 32, its now being moved to the aristocrat while i test out personnas in the super speed, ill still use the feather once a week until the end of its life though.
