1. Thank you guys! Much appreciated.
  2. Gorgeous razor Jamie, good to see you posting here!
  3. Thank you, Steve.:)
  4. I won this lovely Pipe in a TSD raffle a few years back and some time ago the scales broke. I tried fixing it up today with some super glue but it came apart again mid first-pass. I’ll try a home fix again with a little more glue. If it doesn’t work it’s off to get new scales - too good of a razor to keep on the bench. :happy036:

Had a very close and smooth shave with this vintage Sheffield blade .I finished the blade on a Thuri . Love how Wostenholm Steel takes an Uber smooth edge .This razor has seen some use over the past 140 years or so .She not perfect but like an old pair of comfortable shoe provides a very comforting shave .

  10. I agree. Old straight razors are quite something.

  11. Going with an old French straight this evening.

No maker, just the town of Langres on the tang. Heavy razor, near wedge, with some “character” gathered through the years.

The town of Langres looks to be an ancient town in northeastern France, known for armor making and was also a center for cutlery.

  12. Is that a recent Japonese Hoshi tombo? I mean are they in business yet?
    Thank you

  14. Hi, Vitor,

No the razor was made by the custom maker Cedric Christ for me, I have two original Hoshi Tombo razors, a 6500 and an 8000, I made a very accurate detailed drawing of the original razor including the exact specifications, here the original including the drawing.

  15. Cedric Christ does some very nice work. I would love to work up the nerves to order one. But, for now, I have many many vintage razors that need help.
  16. Jamie that’s Great!!
The geometry of that blade resembles my Diamond razor and I think it’s one of the factors that is so stiff and cuts so well. Can you tell me the original steel on the original Hoshi and the what was the steel used in custom?
And how do you compare both razors when you shave? Equal? Similar? Diferente in what ways ?
I congratulate you on your creativity!
    KR
    Vitor

  17. Cedric Christ, is he in the forum?

  18. No, he's not on any forums, Cedric, only seems to work through Instagram, he did once post on Facebook but he no longer does. Hoshi Tombo original steel would have been high-quality Japanese steel, the custom Hoshi Tombo is Suminagashi white paper steel, they are both nice shavers very similar. PS I have worked with Cedric quite a few times he's a real Gentleman, he's from France, he also makes some wonderful Chef knives, what I like about Cedric he can do any grind from a full hollow right through to a wedge grind, he also makes Damascus and forges his own steel.
