  2. Exactly, no big deal as long as a doctor isn't involved. My thoughts on many things. Switching to DE shaving from carts (especially with the milder Gillettes I have) was mostly non traumatic. Even with a cart...you still gotta be careful of bumps, placement, movement and such. Open edge shaving is a learning curve, in every aspect. It's constant undivided focus requiring immediate attention to the most minuscule of details. No regrets. I'm getting great smooth shaves, using just about any tool I pick from. With yesterday's shave....it's still less than 1% of the time where there's visible evidence that I messed up. :happy102:

My wife OTOH, was somewhat mortified yesterday morning. Clean up was......more involved than she was ready for.

  3. It should work just fine. Gold Dollar is usually one of the inexpensive brands that many professional honers (i.e. paid services) will accept to work on. Here's to you having a great time learning!

    Oneblade Synthetic Shaving Brush
Salsa Bowl / Timeless bowl scuttle
    Razorock WTP Blue Barbershop
Yaqi Matte Black Scalloped Bar Head on Homemade Aluminum Handle
    Voskhod Blade
    Nivea Post Balm
    Pinuad Clubman Classic

Very enjoyable shave this morning with a razor head I have had for a while but never used. The Yaqi scalloped bar head appears to be a copy of the DE89 head but is a tad more aggressive. It is very surprising to think that a $3.00 head would shave this good but this is one impressive razor head and proves you do not need to spend a great deal of money to get a good shave.

The aluminum handle that I fabricated did a great job and I really like the feel of a ½ inch handle.

The Razorock Blue Barbershop is an excellent and enjoyable soap. Plenty of thick cushiony lather.

Finished up with some Nivea and Pinuad Clubman Classic.

Take care and have a great day.

  12. I suppose I could have used a few more Stoylin Agar(sample)drops this morning, but one of the things written by the cowboys at The Soap Exchange(Ft. Worth, TX...a cowboy type community)is that their soap scents smell so good that aftershave isn't necessary. That's why I've used(and will continue to use when the sample ends)-Stoylin Unscented, to follow up the TSE soap. I'm sure I'll buy another TSE soap, but when and which one are the current questions.

  14. Gold Dollars usually have good steel but need some work. The stabilizers are usually to big and need to be ground down and some times you need to thin the spine. Look for a vintage razor or a Whipped Dog sight unseen special.

Sounds like fun Neal. Camping is almost always a great time. Enjoy!

Great shave and report Jim. Still loving the images of the Copper Ascension. You must have a chamois cloth to keep it so shiny!

Yeah....Monday....sounds like it was ready to bite back! Great image as always Clint.

Gotta ask Jim....been wanting to. Photoshop? Painter? Pixelmator? Other? Filter used? Love the effects!

Love the handle Danny. Great work!
