Even $5 each seems to much. The rust, the adjuster doesnt work and the crud, oh the crud. Who in there right mind..... ME....... The adjuster with WD40 help, now works and the rust gone with a tooth brush. Clean with Dawn dish soap and a toooth brush. A little rubbing compound to get a shine and... We are ready to shave! Edit I forgot to add... Soak in alcohol to get rid of the WD40 from the razor. Soak and shake, soak and shake, untill the WD40 smell is gone. This is more for newer shavers. I wanted to show that these older razors can get a new life for some one out there. Not all work out this well, but 5 dollars can get you a very good razor, if you are willing to look, and do a little cleaning. tp
Good job Terry. Just proves that some of these old razors can be brought back. They just need some love! Most of the time I have that the rust is from a blade left in the razor and not the razor itself rusting. The rust is sitting on top of the nickel plating and most of the time a good soaking and a brush will bring it off.
For post cleaning lubrication, I suggest mineral oil. Baby oil is the same with a little scent added. Couple drops down the center tube, and up from the lock down knob, a drop or two on the adjuster ring. Hit it with a light Dawn wash to get the outside oil free. Good as new on 9 out of 10 crusty relics I've brought back to service.
Yes Rick that does work most of the time, so that may be the way to go. But this baby was froze up tight, I had another one like this and WD40 was the only thing that broke it loose. So I kinda just use it by default. thanks tp
Thanks John. But realy anyone can do it. If you have the will, that is. So I got a Gillette Slim for 5 bucks and some elbow grease, what a bargin. tp
