Hi Bill and anyone reading this post. I thought about your question for a while and while it's hard to place a "value" on shaving, other than maybe self-pampering, pleasing the wife with smooth skin, and certainly the acquaintances made on this forum. But I have an answer. For me, shaving with a straight razor has allowed me to take a step back in time...a long time. The first shaves were with an open blade, indeed, until the invention of the DE, this was shaving. I didn't know my grandfathers very well, they died when I was pretty young, but I imaging their first shaves were with a straight. It's nice to share that with their memory and all of my unknown ancestors, who placed an open blade to their faces. Corny answer, but I am kinda corny.
