Last weekend I honed my Le Grelot 71. Last night when washing the razor ended up touching the faucet lightly with it. Needless to say, had to reset the bevel and re-hone it tonight.. I was a bit in a rush, and I am sure I didn't do it properly. I used to get a HHT4 all the way across the blade. Now the toe seems to be HHT3 at best... Might have to go back at it tomorrow...

This one had some very minute chips, on the very toe end. It still had the factory bevel, so, putting a proper bevel took a little time. The blade had a tiny little warp in it, that you could only tell, while pushing the slurry. Easy to overcome. I set the bevel, with a Norton 1k and a King 2k, followed by an unknown 3k. I then used a JNAT on loan from @Steve56 , along with some Nagura slurry stones, to finish it. The finished edge came on quick, and was super sharp, and polished. I ended it with an Arkansas Surgical Black, progression stone. Hair popping easily, without stropping, and a very smooth edge. I then did some work on the linen and leather. It easily passes the HHT-CN(Hanging Hair Test-Chuck Norris), along the entire edge. Wicked sharp.

Barely used razor. It honed up, like a dream. Same setup as the above Bismarck. Ths razor was tree topping after every stone, with east. After the final stropping, it was scary sharp. The combination of the JNAT and the Arkie Surgical Black, is a very nice combination.
Only one issue remains, which to shave with, Tonight?

Both, it’s why we have two sides to our faces! One for the right, one for the left. :eatdrink047:

I bought some vintage blades and a chrome plated brass razor box containing one star blade, in the deal was a Bengall SR which i really had no interest in...but it took a great edge...will test shave it tomorrow..all for £4

Bengal Sheffield Razors Take a Fantastic Edge..The Quality Control was a Bit Iffy at Times..Many Have Factory Grinding Issues Like the Blades Being as Bent as a Banana & Other Issues..

Some were However Ground Very Well..Its Hard to Beat a Good Sheffield in My Books...They are Optimal around 16 K in My Humble Opinion through Honing Many of Em.Many Bengals were Made for the British Colonies Worldwide & Many were Mass Produced by a Small Number of Factory Workers ( 7 Workers at One Point ) that Worked their Fingers to the Bone for a Hard Life in the Bengal Factory in England...;)

    Enjoy..:git:

Testing tomo nagura from the ‘doorstop’ hone. The hone is a hard grey Okuda from Alex, a nice 60-cut (190x70), thick and two-sided and a good hone though not very pretty. I spruced it up a little with some red cashew lacquer on the sides which goes well with grey stones. The tomo worked very well with this stone, details in the daily shave thread.

The razor is a re-scaled Gold Dollar. Gold Dollars get a lot of criticism, much of it justified, but a good example is just a 13/16 half hollow and the steel is good. What folks never realize is that the worst part of a Gold Dollar is the scales. Put a decent set of scales on a nice example and you’ll be very surprised. You almost never see decent scales on one except in the modding threads because you can’t very well justify putting expensive scales on a $10 razor.. These scales aren’t that good really, they’re from a Dovo Pallisander of which I have two, one badly over ground in the center by the master Solingen grinders, and the good one went into better scales. They’re ‘popsicle stick’ scales, same thickness fore and aft, and the wedge is an un-tapered spacer. Still, they made a significant improvement. I take a pair of these when I travel by air.

Tried my hand at honing for the first time today... really more of a touch up with a 6k and a 12k to some green oxide but we’ll see how it goes tonight when I get my shave on... I’ll call it good if I don’t end up in the ER in need of a blood transfusion!

Will do. The Dovo has been fantastic and I think I’m ready to explore the next level of wetshaving obsession...I’m sure I probably should have gone to an 8k in between but I don’t have an 8k.... yet. I can already see it coming though. I’ll have $3000 worth of stones before you know it...
