I was doing a quick test of a newly arrived coticule, shave was very good. Looking forward to more coticule learning. The razor was a 6/8 Manaslu M-100, an entirely different razor than the thumb notch M-300s and M-500s. Cream was SMN and a little AB topped things off for a DFS.

    R. Holder 578.
I know these aren’t rare, as there are a few up for sale, but I can’t find much on their history, specifically any connection with Herders. Pulled out the F. Herder 45 and took some pics... I think the comparison is clear. :)

Obviously the tang stamps are uncannily similar.

But I can’t find R. Holder in the list of Solingen razor makers.
Anyway... it takes a nice edge, as most Solingen razors do.

I will be using this one sometime tomorrow. It was a birthday gift from a good friend. I just wanted to post a photo in advance. Wester Bros of NY was established in 1891 and was the sole importer of the German factory. I suspect the American enterprise was in response to the 1890 McKinley Tariffs.

    From Strazors:
    "
    Wester Bros, Solingen.
"Wester Bros.Cutlery Co." existed 1904-1967 in New York City.
Charles and Max Wester were the owners.
It was originally founded in 1891 as Jacoby & Wester.
Wester Brothers was the sole inporter of goods made by Wester & Butz of Solingen.
The owner of Wester & Butz was August Wester, father of Charles and Max Wester."

Could be. I’ve seen a Carl, Daniel, Robert, Richard, and the most common Friedr. Herder, all out of Solingen.

    Nice setup!

I think this is the first I've seen of that decanter. I really like it.
