June 12th
Proraso PS Red
Drake 2 Band Badger
Fine Fresh Vetiver SS
Proraso SC White*
Ralf Aust 6/8 Horn Scales
Fine Fresh Vetiver AS
So.....rough shave this morning. Either I don't know how to lather Fine SS, or the Ralf Aust is dull, or both. I hardly ever complain about lather....but today is
it. Loaded the Drake for ~20 seconds off the puck. Noticed immediately it was loading, but barely 'lathering' (as opposed to almost every other SS or SC I own, which starts loading....then lather bursting at 5-10 second mark while continuing loading). Transferred to my shave bowl, and whipped for a minute or more....adding a little water, mixing, going back to the puck, you name it. Always seemed a bit 'thin', even on the face. Layered over Proraso PS Red for the 1st AND 2nd pass.....the shave was skippy, tuggy, felt even STICKY as the blade landed and scraped (almost irritable). Maybe Fine SS and Proraso PS aren't compatible. Gave up.....so for the 3rd pass*, I pulled out a tube of Proraso White, hand smeared it. Did a XTG all over, and I'll label today's shave as the most frustrating DFS to date. No weepers or issues.
FWIW, the Aust did do it's 100 laps this morning on the strop. However, today short on time....I didn't test for arm hair shave pinging that gssixgun likes to show in the videos I've watched. Tomorrow....I'm going to repeat this shave with a different SS or SC. No change in any other process/product to see if there's a better result. Maybe the Aust needs a refresher on the 12k stone....but it's only the 3rd shave with it, and the first 2 were great, and the 3rd pass today worked, so I'm leaning towards the SS or my methodology with it's first time use.
The Fine Fresh Vetiver AS had minimal feedback......you guys have enabled

another top 10 fragrance of mine (and more importantly, wifey).
Still, NOT a bad end result overall....there was no spillage of crimson, no major irritation spots, and definitely no straight razor oopsies that leaves scars. Tomorrow can only be better.
Have a Wonderful Wednesday everyone!
