  1. Sorry about the crummy shave Andrew. Great Hump Day photo of Declan.

  2. Thanks, Terry! I have shaved my head for 11 years so it is second nature, but from day one, I never used a mirror. I would not shave your head with a shavette or straight razor until you are very comfortable with using one on your face and neck and getting a BBS shave. I am an odd ball in the shaving world and other realms of reality because I was confident in trying it with only 16 shavette shaves under my belt. Lol! Just remember, I and every SR shaver on this forum will help and encourage you when you move into our neighborhood.

  4. Thanks Patrick. The problem with injectors is that the blade is not easily transferred from razor to razor so you put the razor away with a blade in it and when you come back to use it the blade is in an unknown state. Maybe it isn't such a problem if you only have a hand full of injectors, but that isn't the case for me.

  5. That's about spot on with what I do. I'll be rotating through razors more often now though. I'll see how it goes. My razor collection pales in comparison to some so I won't be too far removed from my last shave with any one in particular.

  8. Possibly, but not so sure. Just tested the Ralf Aust, using the shave test that gssixgun shows in this video (about the 13 min mark). Watched many of Glen's videos, and a good number of Lynn Abrams videos, and the one below is a near Holy Grail of KISS for me to duplicate.

The RA passed popping hair along the entire length of the blade with flying colors several times. Confirmed for me that I don't need to put the RA on the 12k stone for touch up, or strop it (for now). The blade was covered in hair, and my left arm has many BBS areas , so the problem I ran into wasn't sharpness (in my mind), it was landing slickness along with the stumps I have for face hair.

I'll repeat the shave tomorrow (no stropping the RA) with all Proraso, and see what the results are.

    Thanks for the reply Joe!
  9. I have razors in two large groups, 1st string and 2nd string. In the 1st string, are 5 DE razors and 5 SE razors. 95% or more of my shaves on a yearly basis, come from these razors. I will get on a kick in this group and stay with 1 or 2 razors for an extended period of time as well. The 2nd string razors are pulled out during a theme month or when the mood strikes me. Some of the 2nd string razors get used fairly often while others are rarely used at all.
  10. Speik soap has the scent of the speik plant, which is slightly spicy/medicinal and fades quickly. I don't know of anything else that smells quite like it. It creates a very stable and high quality lather, but takes a little longer & more water than my other shave sticks. It's a slightly harder soap than most sticks, but never requires blooming or anything like that. I always face lather.

edit: it's quite a small stick but should last a while. I got it from Fendrihan for a reasonable price, but not as cheap as Europeans get it in their stores.
  11. Thanks for accepting my possible solution. I would want someone to give me advice to give me a successful result. As straight shavers, we have to exhaust all possibilities that can cause the dulling of a blade. I just pointed to one cause out of a few others. Glad that it passed the hair test. I am sure you will figure it out.

  13. Gary, I think my original point was that I wasn’t surprised that Danny got a functional shave from a unique razor in that they all hold blades that cut. I also pointed out that some were better and/or more fun in doing that functionality.

And....as one of my good friends, since 2nd grade, who is now a Level 1 ER doc, AND a practicing attorney (cause he's bored), just recently told me, a 'no comment' or 'no change' doctor visit....is a GOOD Dr. visit!

  18. Advice is always good and accepted. Thank you! :) Makes me think deep into what I'm doing/experiencing. I'll report what happens when I try again tomorrow, but with a SC/SS product that I'm familiar with. I was thinking of Proraso or MWF or Arko or something along those lines. Probably not a good comparison to jump to Wholly Kaw or Castle Forbes. Those are different levels compared to Fine SS (at least in my world of thinking).
