The slants I currently own are as follows. PAA Bakelite OC Slant Merkur 37C Vintage Hoffritz slant Neo Ras Lutz The Holy Black SR-71 Slant I enjoy using them but I must admit I don’t always use them. When I do use them I prefer a middle of the road blade like Voskhod, Ladas or Rapira Super Stainless. I’ve never used a Feather in a Slant. My favorite slant would have to be the Neo Ras simply because it looks so different. Holding the blade diagonally instead of twisting it.
My Ikon X3 is my daily driver. I own and have used the Merkur 37, RR German 37, Fine Super Slant, PPA Alpha Ecliptic and Maggard Slant so far, with the Ikon being my favorite to date. I'd luv to try something like a Wunderbar or vintage Hoffritz Slant but the price is prohibitive for me. The hunt goes on.
Great! I have a few slants, they seem to make a blade last a tad longer. I also have a Neo Ras and it works ok but my slant razors that twist or torque the blade seem to work better, for me. I have 2 PAA Phoenix bakelite razors that work fantastic, one is th OC slant the other is based on the humpback, a 37 too but not being home can't remember the others. I use Feather blades in all of them and get marvelous shaves. Most feel a slant is gimmicky, and I suppose that can be true to some extent. I seem to have tough beard layed over a bed of tender skin, I need all the help I can get to slice off hair while keeping my skin unmolested. The slants help in that quest, at least for me anyways. I'm currently using a Cooper Monobit with Kai blades to see if the blades hold up better than Feather blades. The moment a blade goes south my face notifies me, immediately. So i use two new Feather blades for a shave. So far the Kai blades last one full shave, and I assume in a torque slant, it may last longer. Thanks tp
I too would like would like to try a Wunderbar or vintage Hoffritz Slant but price is the key factor for not having one, yet. Thanks for the reminder, in my den Merkur 37, RR German 37, Fine Super Slant, PPA Alpha Ecliptic and Maggard Slant all are residents. The Fine Super Slant combined with a Feather blade is a great razor for a head shave. Thanks tp
Well Gary... We may have to get one in your hands to at least take out for a test drive. They do have different "suspension" if you know what I mean. tp
I satisfied my Slant curiosity with a NOS Lutz. It was around $30 from the bay. Not just slant geometry, but it has mild/aggressive sides. Yes it shaves well, but it's not my best razor. As a blade holder it does the twisting torque that may place forces on the blade that a more standard DE don't. Gives much the same effect achieved from the Gillette Slide. I'm glad I tried one! May take others for a shave one day.
i will source a mild inexpensive one in the future.there are a few different things i want to try now my gillette collection is mostly completed..maybe a merkur 37 or something..thank you Terry..
Great! Murker 37 is a good razor, the Razorock 37 is good also. I have 2.The only issue with the Razorock that is the blade fits loose in the head, making blade adjustment hard for some. But id a good shaver otherwise. tp
Nice Rick That's one I have seen very little of. Looks like a nice slant, mild/aggressive side. That's different. Thanks tp
