STL Meet-up Saturday.... 22 June, MMXIX A.D. Big thanks to @ezlovan! Stirling makes a great shave soap base and if you've not yet ordered some...you probably should. I really like the new scent Rod created for this blend. Check out his website at www.stirlingsoap.com to find a scent that suits your taste. They also carry a range of soap and personal care items for men and women. If you artisan shave stuff...Stirling is as good as it gets! It was a real treat to see everyone again, and to meet Jim @jluc and his lively wife, and Randy @BaylorGator checking in from S FL. There was even a @Paul76 sighting! Nap time for me, then dinner with the group. Other than that...it's rather damp and dark in STL, but having a good time! Have a great evening and a pleasant Sunday!
Afternoon Road Trip for a group of brave meet up folks! @wristwatchb Charlie and his lovely bride Kathy, @Drygulch Adam, @Paul76 Paul and @BaylorGator Randy took me up on an invitation for a road trip down to a couple of antique stores in St. Louis. Can't say we found much in the way of razors (one straight that was missing most of the blade - Adam tried a triple double dare but it didn't stick) and a couple of Techs but otherwise just antiques. Adam did find a couple of things of interest. Following the antique shops I decided that, since the King of Ice Cream and leader of the Great Cookie Rebellion had no ice cream, had provided no ice cream and had, instead, received REAL cookies with the rest of the group......cookies he still tries to claim were not real....that it was up the Cartel and the Cookie faithful to provide ice cream. So.....off to Ted Drewe's Frozen Custard we went. Ted Drewe's is a St. Louis classic. We went to the original location on Chippewa Street and Charlie treated the group to some of the finest ice cream/custard you can imagine. You'll notice Randy leaned against the pole eating ice cream. Ice cream provided by the Cartel and Cookie faithful. Wait....just in case he says that's not him????? Absolute and irrefutable proof that the Cookie Cartel is real, the cookies are real, and even the ice cream provided for this event was procured and delivered by.....the Cookie Cartel. Game. Set. Match. By the way - he had seconds. That is all.
June Oldies Focus? Jeeves of Hudson Street 30DC '18 SS 30DC LE Cypress & Cashmere brush Suribachi bowl and cool water 1906 Gillette Single Ring 3pc DE Gillette Silver Blue blade Jeeves of Hudson Street 30DC '18 AS Salute to the 30 DC that made it to The '19 Meet Up! Glad you folks can share some time together. Thank you for sharing photos and stories about the event! Pulled out the LE set from last year in solidarity. I can't be there in your presence, but I'm here in scent. After whipping up a slick wet lather I popped a twice used blade out of the Deluxe OC and into the oldest DE I've ever handled. Cranking the knob down I could hear an interesting crinkle from the modern blade as the old parts caught their grip. Seemed there was the slightest waver to the blade on one side so I eased the tension off just a smidge. Three passes using a light touch in my standard pattern, skipping the extra clean up for evaluation purposes - very nice DFS! Missed a few spots here and there as expected with a forewarned aggressive on it's first run. No blood on steel, faded gold wash, or exposed nickle, & the AS went on without any screaming. Think I'll make a month of old DE's to decide which one of those three SiRi (Not Straight Razors -SR, but Single Rings) I drop in The Traveling Box Round Two. Good Shaves Y'all!
Rick, great shave and post! If you really wanted blood on your steel, then I think there is a Soap Co. named Stirling that can lend you a helping hand. Lol!
In Randys defense I assume he was just double checking to see if the ice cream met his high standards.
Inspired by a new member whose wife got him a shiny new EJ DE89, mine got called up from the reserves today. Keeping with month theme of basics, Col Conk Lime, Omega boar, and Brut joined in. @Luca ..... this one's for you!
Laughing and eating custard doesn't get any better, Randy. It's a shame that the weather wasn't nice! I hope to make the next meetup.
