Thank Rick! This razor is the precursor to the Hydromagic. What you are seeing is a bracket that holds the blade in place so that you can open up the head for rinsing. If you peruse the thread a little further you will see that it is the subject razor of a patent application.
Jason, nice pic, and gear! Sorry about the Red River flowing at high tide. It also happens to me when I am on "automatic mode" and it is during my last pass that my blade bites me. Now, I don't get a big gash, but it does mar a perfectly good shave. Hopefully, your cut doesn't leave a scar. Unfortunately, these mishaps happen to the best experienced shavers. The lady looks very much like the lady who co-starred in a movie about two female friends bringing their daughters(one brought her son also)to San Diego for a vacation, and one of the daughters got abducted by a "date". They finally find her barely conscious in a rocky area not far from where the waves crash. Can't recall the co-star's name.
