Interesting experiment.

It had a greasy coating on it out of the wrapper, so I cleaned the blade and then I stropped it. It got better over the first few shaves.

I've never had much luck with the old Autostrop or Valet cutout ones. If the next one I try sort of works I'll try breaking it in then.

I think modern blades are probably sharper than those vintage blades. I have 20 shaves with this Valet blade, but I am not sure it will make it to 43 shaves. I have a Personna blade that I have nursed to 42 shaves. I have it set aside because I got tired of shaving with it. I cleaned and palm stropped it after each shave.

handlewise, but delivered an equally good close finish. So good that won't need a touch up when going out tonight.

My prep was just a cold water rinse. The Mitchell's Wool Fat Shave Soap face lathered well with the Jayaruh #371 Badger/Boar brush. I did two passes with the 1907 Gem Jr. Lather Catcher Lather Catcher razor with a Vintage Gem Cutlery SE blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Aqua Velva 5 in 1 ASB. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Thanks to @Boru62 I finally got a cake of MWF. What a great soap. Paired it with a Auto Strop for todays morning shave. Wonderful. The brush scuttle kept it nice and warm.
