Two pass, dfs. The shavette isn't as comfortable as a straight. But i did come out smooth and blood free. I matched blood on steel with sweeney todd, gotta be a theme here somewhere.

Over the weekend I did some shaves to evaluate a couple of razors I sent out for honing.

I used the Stirling Blood on Steel (Hanae Mori dupe) combo that I can't get enough of both times. On the AS there is a wood type of scent that comes out for a couple of hours after the initial dry down. I don't particularly favor it, but after it dissapates what is left is long lasting gentle whiffs of fresh and pleasant smells that I love.

I went with the Spirit of St Louis deluxe limited edition TSD brothers of the blood and BBQ brush. There is a soft and flexible nature of this brush that makes loading a dry soap a little time consuming. Now if you call in the Blue Ming for some assistance it is not a big deal. These very same soft/flexible properties seem to help create a super smooth and rich wet sloshy lather that I like. If you don't have a specific shaving lather bowl to whip it up, soup and cereal bowls are acceptable substitutes, just make sure to wash them first.

Pretty much, all my primary razors were honed from where I got them. Honing is a skill I'm working on, so I sent these to a fellow in New England with a good reputation that likes Shaptons and takes them up to 30k. He does something unique at the end I've never seen done. After most of his work at 30k is done, he gently draws the cutting 'edge' across the edge of the stone, then finishes with just a few final cycles normally. Then minimal stropping. I am happy with the result I got and do not believe either of these specific tools have ever shaved this well. It is a source I will use again, but not to the exclusion of others.

Razor - Gillette New LC Delta Echo Edition
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
Soap - Stirling Port au Prince [IMG]
Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip
    Post - Alum

It's Sunday and that means it's time for some SHEEP!! Stirling mutton tallow it is and for tonight I chose the Port au Prince. Haitian Vetiver and Lemongrass combine to make it one that I'm loving more and more. It's a subtle scent but definitely there and it makes for a great relaxing shave while the mutton tallow provides extra slickness, protection, and that unbeatable post-shave feel. Sticking, of course, with the New LC and Voskhod for the hardware, and adding the Wolf Whiskers Silvertip to create that legendary Stirling lather.

I've been slightly under the weather all day with my usual ailments but once I started the shave I was able to let the pain and frustration of the day melt away as I spent three slow and deliberate passes on getting down to a BBS. I even held onto a handful of the lather I squeezed out of the brush at the end and just enjoyed the sensation and scent. Yep. I feel much better.

A new week has launched! We're 10 days away from the end of the month and here comes Adjustable (Arko) August!! If you wanna play along with the theme get those adjustables out and shined up, or that Arko back on the shelf. And, of course, if you wanna play along without the theme that works just as well. Have a great Monday!!

    MONDAY'S SHAVE

Bath Soap - Pre de Provence Sandalwood (quad-milled)
Razor - Antique Gillette ABC "Empire" Razor circa 1908-1912 (fully restored/re-plated in rhodium by Razor Emporium)
Blade - SuperMax Blue Diamond *4th Shave
Shave Brush - Ralph Lauren Safari Collection fitted with Synthetic Knot manufactured by Frank Shaving (replaced by jimjo1031)
    Pre-shave Oil - Lather & Wood "unscented"
Shave Soap - Geo F. Trumpers Sandalwood Cream (Dried for months into a hard soap.)
Shave Mug - Ralph Lauren Safari Collection
Post Shave Balm - Geo F. Trumpers Sandalwood Skin Food
Deodorant - Geo F. Trumpers Sandalwood
Fragrance - Ralph Lauren Safari EDT

***EDIT - 1 pass + clean up......I even used the PAA Cube pre-shave soap over the pre-shave oil. I tried to minimize the amount of blade contact and strokes but, as predicted, there was some blood. No real 'cuts', but just spots where the razor took off a tad too much skin. I used my Pinaud-Styptic pencil like an alum block (I think I need to buy an alum block just for this specific razor) to seal up the damage then I rinsed it off with cold water. I used my irritation-prevention protocol that I developed (witch hazel, shave balm, cortisone cream very lightly applied to minimize redness and inflammation, a light amount of benzoyl peroxide acne cream to prevent shaving bumps). Seems to work for me.

I hope so. I will likely also use the PAA Cube along with the pre-shave oil because the ABC antique razor usually draws blood. The best blade was the Gillette 7 O'Clock green (Russian made) and I'm all out of those (and those barely helped).

    Brush: Body shopy synth.
    Razor: Muhle R89
    Blade: Personna blue (4th use)
    Cream: Boots Menthol

This was a rough shave. I really do not get on with the Muhle, it is just too unrefined a shaver for me.
The brush is new but it behaving weirdly. It doesn't like splaying and clumps together on the face, making face lathering a challenge. The cream is excellent though and i have had good success with the blades in other razors.
I am going to retire the blade and the razor for the next shave. My skin needs a rest lol.
