Thanks Terry! Once you have straight shaving down pat, it makes a dreaded chore fun and enjoyable. Although I still consider myself a newbie to it, I am at a point where it is second-nature because I know my beard's growth pattern, the optimal pressure and blade angle and each of my straight's idiosyncracies.
July Focus Stirling~~Simpson~~Boker~~Florida Water Staying technical in this report... @Bama Samurai 10 quick laps of the Red-Injun on my CrOx Linen, followed by 40 laps of my Savin strop. Soaked the Chubby (I know, it's a synthetic...did it anyway) whilst showering. Post-shower, I splashed a bit of H2O on the Stirling Glacial Wintergreen. (I had a fleeting thought about M-Bombing it too. ) Immediately poured off the H2O into my Aesop Stainless Steel lathering bowl. Shook out the brush and began loading the soap. The Stirling immediately takes on gorgeous sheen and when I went to the face, the lather almost created itself. The menthol began working post-haste and the fumes made my eyes water. The Boker has a great edge and technically, I kept the blade close to the skin between short strokes. Again, this technique is very similar to buffing. Anyone attempting this would be well-advised to NOT making any lateral motion. You've been warned. WTG, followed by an XTG pass left my skin extremely smooth. DFS+++ The Florida Water has been mentholated with menthol crystals and is a real-chiller. Double-splash and I am still tingling.
Thanks Joseph! I have come to the realization that straight shaving, stropping and honing techniques are individualistic because there are many paths to arrive at the same destination.
Joseph, excellent shave, pic and setup. Ever since you changed your straight shaving technique, it seems you kicked up your results up a notch. Bravo, my friend!
But we don't need alot unless we are sweating profusely like an athlete in a sporting event. Clayton Sent from my LG-K450 using Tapatalk
You know, it was really a tweak. Same as in singing...small changes can lead to big improvements (hopefully)
Rocket Dorco Prime Platinum (3) Purely Skinful Fougere Mysterieuse (4) Razorock Plissoft Chatillon Lux Taum Sauk Same equipment and approach as yesterday except I finished with the highly mentholated Taum Sauk as it is supposed to be a scorcher today. Did a 3rd pass on the chin and neck. Close, comfortable shave. Pleasantly surprised with the Dorco Prime, especially compared to their other blades.
