Good morning guys!
Traditional Straight Razor Shave #95
5/8 Wostenholm Square Point
Semogue OC Badger Brush
Stirling Bay Rum SS and AS.
Last night I honed this razor for the very first time with my lapping films.
I had to go to my coarsest grit the 3 micron (8K) , then progressed to the
1 micron (14-15K) and finish with my 0.3 micron (50+K). This was my 3rd honing and suffice it to say that I am 3 for 3 in doing a fine job! Now, let me get on with today's report. I didn't bloom the soap, so with the tips wet, I was able to get a nice lather and enough soap for 3 passes and more. I could have stopped on the first pass WTG and it would have been a DFS+. Prior to this shave, my Wosty performed well, but not to this extent which is indicative of my honing with films. Second pass ATG, it would now be considered IBSS+ without touchups. I decided to chase the baby with my 1/2 pass that included the fool's pass which is against the grain on the moustache area. All I can say is wow! Throughout this shave, I used very little pressure whereas with my prior shaves I had to apply more pressure than I should've - hence, the necessity to hone this razor. Finished tbis shave with the matching Bay Rum and there was very little stinging. I had a minor weeper by my Adam's Apple and no irritation, but this was the best shave with this razor. Well, I only need 5 more traditional straight razor shaves to reach the magic number of 100. Guys, have a great Monday!
