  2. Thursday Shave: I finally got this razor right, it took me a couple of tries to hone this one. It is my only Jwest razor that not hollow ground but is a near wedge. It makes no sound while shaving, a ninja blade. A very nice shave today.

    Strop: Roo
    Brush: Shavemac
    Pre: Proraso
Soap: TOBS 2 drops of M-bomb

  11. Good morning all.
Got out the $5 Gillette Fat Boy this morning. 2 Feathers, 2 passes, head and face. This one joins the other FBs that werer sitting in the tray. I didn't REALLY need another one, maybe. It shaves nice, although It's a heavy tool. Found two blemishes on the scalp that the PAL let slide, they are no more.
I'm clean and smooth today, nice.

Everthing worked as expected for a shave that will last for hours. I needed a nice, close, smooth shave.
    To all
    Enjoy

  19. Still working my edge longevity test.
Wonder if I'll stick with it, it just might be more time than I want to invest.
My training razor did 60 shaves before I hit it on a pasted balsa strop. This one is getting .1 micron cBN pasted nanocloth every 5 shaves. Still going strong.

I took a break the other day to participate in the August theme.

Couldn't find my Arko....... well maybe I never had any. I do have a few sticks of another Turkish soap. They are perfectly fine, I just love other stuff more. Maybe I'll use it once this month. Decided on the Island Man combo. For those who do not know, this is a take on Creed Virgin Island Water. It is on the Max Headroom List of Most Glorious Stanks. It is on sale right now for the summer season close out.

I'm not fortunate enough to have one of those fancy adjustables with the gull wing doors like y'all, so I had to make do with my first traditional shaving device, the lowly zamak Parker Variant. This baby doesn't have a 9 either, so I maxed it at 5. Still it is a wonderful Shaver I'd recommend to anyone. Matter of fact, I bought one once for a fine young sailor one of my daughters was dating. The time apart was too much for the young love to last. Hmmm...... (wonder if I can get it back).... (just kidding)!

Before taking up edge forward shaving, I was always timid on the settings, but I love the 'blade feel' these days so I am on the 'turn it up' program.

I have noticed that, for me, shaving the neck in n/s and especially s/n directions the ideal angle to be more difficult to maintain than with an open edge device. Sort of confirms the disappearance of lower neck irritation after taking up straights.

The safety razor has it all over the open edge on the e/w and w/e strokes on the neck though. It brings in the closeness that my open edge skills lack the ability to deliver. Still, nobody knows unless I tell them.

Shave on folks. Youze Guys are just such a chatty bunch! Be well!

  20. SOTD August 15, 2019

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: vintage Schick Plus Platinum
    Razor: Schick Adjustable
Brush: Ever Ready 100T restored badger
    Soap: Stirling Blood on Steel
Post: Witch hazel, Stirling Blood on Steel aftershave

First use of Blood on Steel and it didn't disappoint. Typical top-notch Stirling lather and always slick. I added some menthol crystals to the aftershave, a lot actually, and am still feeling the cool down as I post. Terrific shave overall.

    Have a great day!
