  5. Thats probably why he crashed. Modern tracks are set up for 4 strokes and the jumps are spaced and shaped way differently. Sadly outdoor racing has gone extinct in North America . 500cc bikes were crazy fast and the pilots were crazy on them.

  13. Would love to see that build. . They say the old springer front ends were a nightmare for handling. Seems alot of guys now also convert front wheel to disc brakes . Best of both worlds .

  14. My dad bought a 1965 Austin Healy years ago with transmission problems. When he started buying gears at $100.00 a pop and waiting on them forever that thing got put together and sold quick. This was in the late 70s.

  15. Were the gears not heat treated and soft or were they shattering like glass?

  17. Oh he didn't crash. Won the race with a broken hand.

His annual family vacation was the following week. Did it in a cast.

All one has to do is look at how little travel old suspension had.

At one time they allowed 500cc four strokers run against 250cc two strokes. Reasoning was that only ignition strokes counted.

  18. i believe it.my dad was a ford of england guy in the 60s and early 70s and worked on some cool cortina and escort rally cars of the day..but his love of english cars created my love for u.s muscle cars of the era..the only brit car i have owned was a green and white 72 mini..it was crap as well..

  19. Sorry . I read that wrong. My friend and I took the monoshock off his old YZ and added spacers we built on his father's lathe . Gained about 2 ".
The old twin shock bikes were back breakers when landing jumps I found . Everything bottomed out and the riders body paid the price .
Eventually when the 2 strokes did get faded out from racing and they blamed them for pollution it looked suspicious. There are 2 stroke snowmobiles that give off less emissions than 4 strokes these days .
