3 Pass DFS today. Much the usual from this setup...used a few days in a row now.....only changed the razor and brush. I believe I'm now understanding and experiencing the term 'lather hog'....this knot seems to keep its lather contained, both in the shaving bowl, but also unless there is serious face lathering. It doesn't like face 'paint' strokes (which I prefer) as most of my boar brushes. I work my face prep in the shower immediately before the shave with a very vigorous face soap/scrub, so a face lather to get the growth 'prepped' isn't my routine. Immediately out of the shower to the sink to apply the pre-shave, and it sits while I concoct the lather for the day. Anyhoo....fantastic slick yogurty bliss was made, and the HT 8000 being super sharp, but just a little edgy, not really smooth. Still working on that with various methods of hone 'finishing'. No nicks or much to report.

Hope everyone has a terrific Tuesday!

And yeah......300 posts behind since Sunday evening. You chatty guys......

Here are the only "Facts" I have ever read on actual sharpness tests being done on DE vs SR

The Voerhaven paper states that the "Sharpest" edge they measured on a DE was .31~ microns
The sharpest edge they measured on a SR which THEY honed and stropped was .32 ~microns

If you don't believe it, his contact info is at the bottom of the report :p

    As to angles,
Most DE blade have a Double bevel Tim Zowada at one time had some great Micro Graphs of them on his website, one of the Feather blade had a Tripel bevel
This is done to create a stronger more concave edge, much like how we work a SR edge on the hones and strops.
The final angles are in the 20° range on the DE blades, I am pretty sure I am remembering that correctly

    Smoothness

On a SR we use our strops to tweak in the edge for the most comfort possible from the straightest edge on what is commonly called the "Fin" or very apex of the edge.
On a DE they machine grind the edge and then apply Coatings to smooth it out after the grinding, what I remember reading was that Feather used the highest grinding wheel at 3000 grit I would be hard-pressed to find that again but you might be able to sniff out more info now ..

That is all I can tell ya

I’m not sure about HD since I’ve not owned one. My experience is that newer motorcycles are much more reliable. For a long road trip you used to have to pack all sorts of tools and spare parts. Much like modern cars motorcycles are turn it on as ride until the next scheduled service. On the Honda and Yamaha it’s only fluid changes until over 20k miles.

Had a very nice shave early this morning. I'm still using the First Canadian on Tuesdays until it is gone, and there is some definite 'light at the end of the tunnel' with a Loonie (non-Canucks may have to google this one) sized hole in the bottom. I hadn't used an Injector in quite some time, but was rewarded with the usual excellent shave with it. Get one out, @BaylorGator. The blade is done though, I think. Pulled out the Gentleman for the very cowardly reason that I thought I'd be out of the house by 6:30 or so. Unfortunately, SWMBO was up at 6:15, and during the kiss goodbye she looked at me and said "Don't ever wear that aftershave again... The whole bathroom stinks as well". One step forward, two backwards...
    Have a great day, all!

Pretty picture and nice shave, Jason. Shame your wife is anti Gentleman.

"Loonie sized hole in the bottom" is definitely CT worthy.

    Thank you Perry!

Band performance was very nice. We are in our 'summer uniforms' for 2 more weeks at least. Khakis and band polos. Our brass section is very strong this year. Gained more brass coming in from middle school than those who graduated last May. Percussion.....last 3 years they've won (or placed 2nd in) every Texas contest they attended....but they lost a couple members that graduated, and the incoming freshman still have some catching up to do. Our percussion educator is incredible though, so they'll be in line in no time.

Unfortunately....looking at my late Sept/early Oct schedule, I'm going to miss 2 of the 3 big contests to working weekends. :signs131::signs131::signs131:

At least I'll make most of the games though to see them.

How are things with y'alls program?

That's good to hear! Our kids are doing well. The percussion is a good group of strong players. Our brass number is a little down and therefore doesn't have the overall strength I'd like, but we're working on that each day. The kids did a great job this past Friday. It was great to have a long weekend and let everyone rest and get away from it for a little while. Our third game is Friday and our first contest (or two) is October 5. So we have some time to keep improving.
