Thanks Patrick! Sorry I'm a broken record on the weight loss, but I still can't believe it. Can I interest you in a gently used jacket and a clip-on tie?

  10. Damn! I can’t keep up! I’m thinking about opening up discrete threads because I have lots to share and lots of questions that I think might get passed over here.

Main thing: is a 1954 Flare Tip Superspeed an aggressive razor? It’s eating the crap out of my face!

I was committed to using this razor with a Feather blade and B&M soap all month, but after two days of pain - and an important appointment today - I wussed out and went back to my Merkur 34c. The Merkur made everything right, with the same blade that caused so much damage yesterday.

I realize technique is everything, but I cant imagine my 1954 Superspeed ever coming around. The 2 shaves I had with it were god awful!

    Advice?

  11. Thank you, Charlie! I am glad it wasn't too late to get to using a gym 3 years ago. Presently, I am beginning my 4th year of consistent exercise and eating healthier. It seems you are on the same track to be active as long as you can do so.

  12. I believe you need to adjust the angle of the cap. You are cutting yourself because the angle is too large. Have a shallow angle of the cap to your face. Another way of saying it is to ride the cap.
  13. I find a wet brush will load on any puck I have. If I am home tomorrow, I will get my old floppy Whipped Dog brush and use it with my hardest soap. If not, then the next shave at home. This brush is beyond floppy.
  14. Huge Proraso PreShave Fan, use Red Label (Sandalwood) 6 days a week, every now and then the Green Label (Menthol). The Red is a sweet sandalwood (matches their Red SC scent if you are familiar with it). The Green is almost too much menthol for me (I'm not a big menthol fan). Straight or kamisori shaver 6 days/week since May 1st. I like slick. Proraso PS is SLICK. Snot on a door knob slick. Oil on Ice slick. Silky Slick. Applies very thin, I bowl lather, then usually paint the lather on top.

I get from Amazon on the Subscribe and Save monthly program for ~$12.20. Lasts me a little over a month. Non Prime 'BIN' price is $13.00. You may be able to beat that on some of the other shave specific sites, but you'd likely have to get to the free shipping minimum.

  15. There flare tip SS in general is a very mild razor, I would say even more mild then a 34c. You might look at it with a blade loaded to see if anything looks off. A bent safety bar or t-bar could explain the unexpected results. Also from personal experience I can tell you that the SS required a handle angle that is more parallel to the floor then your face, aka ride the cap.
