Sounds to me like there's something going on with the razor. Doubtful your technique is that far off with this one particular razor. My Fatboy has occasion to flex the blade oddly. After closing the doors, make sure they're good and snug, view the blade from the side. It should follow the radius of the top cap. Push up on the blade from the sides to see if it will follow that radius better than what it is. On my Fatboy it was pretty obvious by looking at it when it was out of whack. Snaps right into place with a little push. I made it a habit to check for this on all my TTO's although it only happens on occasion with my Fatboy. Hope this helps.
Check the ingredients list on both. Because of the water content a preservative of some type will be in the cream. I don't think that would improve the lather. Much of the discussion involving blooming doesn't get much past the "I got soap in my brush". That soap is not dry flakes but it may be a paste that needs more water blended in. For those that like to study the matter they have rituals involving adding minute portions of water. To the bowl, to the knot, above the pasty soap in the knot, etc. It's about how they incorporate water, soap, and air. Those creams are already batch hydrated to some uniform standard. If you have the same ingredients +/- preservatives, but not equally blended they could have different consistencies. Lumpy taters versus potato soup?
Thanks Joseph....I surprise myself sometimes. Since you are expert on most everything, do I need to copyright the quip?
Nice Gary There seems to be a fear factor with these tools. After you get past the initial worry, it realy performs well. Great first run! tp
This is a great post. It’s either a bad angle or a damaged razor. Assuming nothing is wrong with the with the razor, rest the cap flat on your face and drop the handle toward the floor until the blade cuts beard. The slowly adjust the angle from there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Certainly check the razor and make sure the TTO is fully closed and the blade seated correctly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Don't worry about reading every post. Folks are good about quoting or tagging others to get the post in your Alerts. Questions from Information Deficit Shavers are why we're here. Try a test some time; Ask a single question and see how many responses you get. Now a well maintained Flare Tip Superspeed is sort of the middle ground for average. Given that it was made 50 years ago how many times was it dropped? Made of brass and somewhat malleable they can get bent. Look at it with the doors closed both with and without a blade installed. if there's variation between the guard bars and doors, or the blade and the cap or guard bars you may have an abused tool, therefore defective. Good news is that particular razor comes relatively cheap and often. Assuming you see no gross variation in the gaps, make sure the blade also extends the same amount beyond the cap. Try shaving with only one side of the Double Edge. If the center piece is bent it may push the blade out more on one side, less on the other. Feather blades get grief for being Pro Only blades. Like a Newbie should even think about them. I've read a credible blade sharpness study that suggested the first use was among the sharpest. Subsequent uses it drops off quickly to just average or below. That what happens with the very thin edge - it degrades quicker than a more blunt blade. Because Feather Hi-Stainless blades come in a fairly solid plastic dispenser I'm guessing the blades aren't defective. So if you've determined the razor is straight and you are locking the blade all the way down, & the blades aren't damaged - that leaves the other variables. In my signature is a long discussion on Ride The Cap. If you aren't totally familiar it's worth a skim for pertinent details. Not much else to add. If you see anything anomalous in your blade gaps take a photo and post it? Maybe try those Feathers in another razor?
