Makes me want to consider a modern razor of such ilk. I have a Merkurs (Ancient designs tbh) and a Muhle (Ditto), and a hat full of Vintage, but nothing really modern.

Plus it is a SE, and i have yet to try one.

    My wallet is twitching lol

Your shaves will get better. My first outing with a DE I made a mess of myself. I struggled for the first few months swapping between razors, blades and soaps. It wasn't until I joined up here and did a couple of rules that everything started coming together. You're on the right track.

Patrick, my Bride has one of these mirrors on her vanity. It sits on a stand. Regular mirror on one side, 10X on the other. I use the 10X mirror all the time. Works great to see small details without my glasses. It will show you where you have missed spots on your shave. Only downside is that you have to bend over to use it. Maybe you can find one with a wall-mount to bring it up to a more comfortable height.

Thank you, Clint. This office is completely on the other side of Houston, and you never know what traffic is going to be like, so I leave very early just to make sure.

You'll get there, Jon. It took several months for me to consistently get the shaves I wanted. Since then, I've managed to have a few more "aha" moments that have allowed me to improve further. The journey is part of the fun. This is a great group of folks with good experiences and great advice. You will find yourself helping others get started in no time.

Great post, Blair! I agree with your SR assessment. I started out tradional straightshaving with a 5/8 Dovo Special roundpoint. I believe newbies should start out with that size and point because it is easy to move around curves and get under the nose/moustache area. It was a few months that I got a wider 6/8 Spanish pt Ralph Aust and then eventually went to 7/8 and 15/16 blades. It's funny because when I started, the 5/6 was adequate, but now it feels so small. However, I still like them, but I prefer the larger blades.

Ok, this time I didn't make a mistake on labeling my Slim and getting my brain shortcircuited. Lol! My 68 Slim really did an awesome job shaving my 36 hr stubble. My Omega 49 brush always does a great job producing lather regardless of my soap selection. Stirling comes through time and time again with a nice lather. I didn't' bloom the soap and got a lather on the wetter side than my usual application, but it still was slick to give me a great shave. Did two passes and buffed along the way so I didn't need to to a half pass or minor touchups. I also pulled back on the pressure and the razor still did well. The baby smiled at me and I got an irritation free shave. I reopened a wound on my chin, but it went away quickly without any intervention. Applied the matching aftershave and then the Nivea balm to soothe and moisturize my face. That's my shave report for today! Have a wonderful Friday guys! 20190906_082259.jpg 20190906_082259.jpg

    Great shave and report Joe!
This is one thing that I have learned in the last couple of months and has seemed to help a lot. Just let the weight of the razor do the work......no additional pressure needed.
