  4. Thx...

I bought one of each some time back for my trip to Harry Headroom Home Honer University.

Visually I liked the ZY best at first.

The Gold Dollar turned out to be easier to hone to a shave edge. Got it taped up on Naniwas. It looked worse, but was no near as wonky.

I tried several times on the Naniwa progression, tape/no tape. Finally got a shaving edge on a convex ark. Sharp but not smooth.

Probably mute the edge on the Gold Dollar and try it next.

All in good fun trying to find my way.

  9. Those razors are great for learning to hone because they are so inexpensive that you won't go grape nuts if you ruin them. However, a honed Chinese cheapie straight does deliver a nice shave based on what I have seen on YouTube.

  10. The Weishi long handle must be a step above from a short-handled Weishi/VDH.

  14. Took me some tries, but I'm happy with end result on this one, it was a good exercise for me. I really don't know what level of edge retention one could expect to get though. I think I saw a guy on YouTube that hones and uses these, I'd bet he has an answer. If folks weren't successful sharpening these somewhere, I would not even try. I've also read folks that say, don't fool around with them too. Some who offer honing services won't touch them. Can you imagine spending more than your usual time to hone a wonky piece then have to listen to the owner complain that your normal $25 charge is outrageous for a $5 razor?

  18. I do ride the cap. On the pass from the jaw downward, I clearly lost the angle. User error.
