Absolutely. Ulysse is a fragrance that was created by Vicky Tiel, an american born fashion designer who was the first american, man or woman to set up a clothing design shop in Paris, France in the mid ‘60’s. No easy feat considering she had to compete with juggernauts such as Chanel, YSL, Guerlain and others in clothing design and fragrance development.

She created quite a name for herself in creating edgy, sexy yet contemporary designs in those days and piqued the interest of some heavy Hollywood hitters, most notably Elizabeth Taylor with whom she partnered with and gave Vicky Tiel the financial backing and clout to go stand shoulder to shoulder with the established names in the designer industry. Today she is still producing designs for Hollywood’s finest and some of the most beautiful models in the world today. She actually partnered with HSN to design an exclusive luxury clothing line and has been successful there as well.

Onto the fragrance itself, which is Ulysse and only one of two fragrances that she ever created for men. The other being Achille and is the newer fragrance of the two. Ulysse came out in 1998 and was dubbed and promoted as a fragrance that mirrors a love potion. Designed for men to arouse passion, desire and excitement in women. And honestly, she succeeded in that aspect. The scent is somewhat of a fresh, aromatic, citrus yet has elements of a classic Fougere. It opens with a Mandarin & Lime blossom that carries into a very nice heart notes of clove and a clean , natural smelling lavender with a pinch of Greene’s that play with each other very nicely alongside a nice, mellow and tranquil woods vibe that is not strong but, present and smooth. In the end the drydown/base carries notes of patchouli, slight musk and vanilla bean that rounds it out very nicely. I detect a bit of an earthy, perhaps a mossy type like note that carries with the base notes very well. There is a light sweetness to it but, nothing like the synthetic infusions of todays modern crowd pleasers with their Ambroxan & ISO E Super concoctions. Ulysse smells more natural, inviting and Vicky Tiel nailed it in terms of the Ladies liking this juice. Though unique, it does have similar vibes to other scents out there like Invictus Aqua ‘16 version, Prada Luna Rossa Carbon, a slight likeness to Dior Sauvage and JPG Le male in its more older formula. If there is an issue with the juice it’s perhaps sillage and projection. I get maybe about an hour to two of arms length projection and then by the 4th hour it becomes a close skin scent that hangs on for some time. You catch very nice whiffs of it during the day that put a nice grin on one’s face. Perfect for daytime and office use as it doesn’t scream for attention or shout look at me, I’m the one radiating here. Subtle yet solid and those who get close to you will take a deep breath and get just a bit closer intrigued by this unique and clean scent. Best thing is that it’s super cheap, like anywhere from $10 to $20 a bottle depending on whether you acquire 1.7oz or the 3.4oz size. The aftershave is actually very good for face toning and conditioning with a bit greener and earthier note than the edt.
A fantastic hidden gem that punches way above it’s weight. I definitely recommend it just to try something that is slightly different, is more natural smelling and not as synthetic as todays juices. Note that I purchased an older bottle from the early 2000’s and the newer versions might have gone through changes or reformulations as with all fragrances. So, take this review with a pinch of salt and keep that in mind. For the money though, totally worth it....
