A non-scientific exploration on the feelings of sharpness continued:
PRC 6/8 half hollow grind. This is a symmetrical kami, the edge is very smooth, the razor a breeze to handle and on the ATG pass it was very sharp.
Robert Williams 7/8 quarter to half hollow: This razor just looks sharp, it feels very sharp on the first two passes and yup sharp on the ATG pass.
SK-3: This is a unique razor in that it has a big smile and very hollow grind, it is truly impressive. The razor was just like velvet on the first two passes, usually a grind this hollow will feel sharp but she does not. ATG, oh yes very sharp. Likely this due to the edge Glen
@gssixgun gave her.
Karve F-plate with a fresh Feather: This razor gives the blade more support than my 2011 R41 and Joris so I went with a Feather blade. I was surprised on the first two passes, it felt smooth and did not have the feeling of sharpness I expected. ATG, yup this is sharp blade.
First two passes: Here the Robert Williams felt the sharpest followed by the PRC, the SK-3 and Karve were like velvet smooth.
ATG on chin and upper lip, my true sharpness test: The winner here was the SK-3, the other 3 were tied.
I think my perception of sharpness of the Robert Williams is due to it's scary look and the fact the sharp point used to draw a lot of blood. The Karve gives the blade a lot of support taking away the sharp feeling I got with the other safety razors.
