I've had some absolutely stunning shaves this month! I've been using bundubeard coffee and an arko shave stick exclusively this month and while both can be considered "budget" soaps, both work better than any other soaps ive ever tried, many being more than double the price. I've also used Col Conk lime a few times in the last two months or so. A budget soap shootout between the three soaps will be coming out shortly, within the next week so stay tuned!

The Gillette aristocrat has also been serving me well over the last few weeks. Its absolutely amazing how a razor made in 1948 still performs as well as the day it left the factory, it's an absolute must for vintage razor collectors who use their collection for shaving like i do.

I've also noticed that the Gillette blades seem to keep their edge way way longer than voshkods. Don't get me wrong, Voshkods are fantastic blades, but for me they lack longevity, which is one of the more important factors for me to consider in a blade

Razor: 1948 Gillette aristocrat barber pole
    Brush: Wilkinson sword classic shave
Blade: gillette 7 o clock sharp edge (15)
    Soap: Bundubeard coffee 250g
    Aftershave Balm: prep[IMG]

Two passes, two nicks. Felt like the blade was going dull, so i disposed it right after the shave. Otherwise everything went well.
  6. Terrific shaves, Matthew!

It is had to believe it is Monday already. I went with the Marko method of loading the soap and made a wonderful mess in addition to a mountain of rich slick lather. This soap base tolerates a wide range of water remaining stable and slick throughout. Color me impressed. Three passes and touch ups caught the baby without any drama. A splash of witch hazel and Fine Fresh Vetiver followed by a spritz of Vetiver EdT left me smelling great. I hope everyone has a wonderful Monday.
  15. I would think the original staff of Gillette including the makers and designers of your Aristocrat would be delighted that this one is still in regular use, rather than sat behind a glass door in somebody's collection :)

  17. The collection certainly has grown. 13 de razors and a straight in exactly one year of DE shaving. Most of the razors i have especially the vintage ones i found at antique sales at bargain prices but a lot of them came from very Generous people on various forums. The sad part is with all those razors soaps and blades i now have, i still spent far less than i would with a cartridge razor. Glad i used up my dads contour blades and made the switch!
