  6. Nice shave, Andrew. 1/2 oz. The blade weighs as much as the razor! ;)

  8. Welcome to the 30DC! I am Joe and I am primarily a straight razor shaver. You have a nice den! We are here to share knowledge to newbies and veterans alike in wetshaving, we encourage one another and sometimes we rib each other. You joined a great fraternity! I am looking forward to your posts.

  9. The 30-day fat challenge...I have done it. Can you? We should throw down the gauntlet and see how many of us can actually do this challenge.

  10. Ha! For the uninitiated (of which there are very few of you out there), Gentleman is one of my all time favourite scents and I think one of Stirling's greatest works...it is also the only scent my wife has outright banned from usage in our house.

  13. I think the bulk of the weight is made up from a bolt and nut that holds the head and handle together too

  14. Thanks Rick! I'm having fun reading along and getting to know people by their comments.

I came into this forum looking for ideas on soaps. There's so much out there and I just had no idea where to start. Well, problem solved for a while. I have a pile of samples and I've already purchased several jars of Stirling soaps and AS just waiting on the order.

While I'm tempted to buy all the cool stuff I see out there, I do have some self control. My focus right now is shifting from buying cool stuff to making cool stuff.
  15. Welcome aboard Michael. You have a very nice collection of razors and soaps. I look forward to reading your posts.
  16. It was all I could do to resist. But I did.

  19. I like your summation, I too have had questions on that particular post. Finding that in general, some of the statements being somewhat helpful. I was wonderind how the tests were run the same each time. I also wonder how companies who produce their blades test for sharpness QC.
Being more of an art as opposed to a science is a good way of explaining it.
Me, I've found there are 3 types of blades for me.

    1. Blades that aren't sharp, right out of the wrapper. Pull and tug like the cheap bic cart I used to use. 10 or 15 percent of what I've tried.
    2. Blades that are sharp enough to get an ok shave, Don't pull and tug until some time during shaving. 70 t0 75 percent of what I've tried.
    3. Blades that are so sharp you wouldn't know they're doing anything if you weren't listening. 10 to 15 percent of what I've tried.

Within those categories there are subsets.
    A. Blades that are sharp then tend to dull while used.
    B. Blades that seem to me to get sharper during a shave before they start to dull.

I had hard numbers once upon a time, but found it useless keeping track after I migrated to some personal favorites.
Being so subjective, the numbers were only good for me, so I gave up on it all and decided time better spent making a cup of coffee.
I still try out blades that meet my ever changing curiosity, but normally just wander back to my favorites.

Then make a good cup of coffee.
That's subjective too, but I like coffee, too.

  20. I'm still watching the auction. It also has a Futur (or a chromed clone there of), and a couple other items. I wonder how many V1 purchasers became users and didn't swap for the V2.
Coaches & Cheer leaders - We'll answer questions to the best of our ability, but you have to let us know what's in need of improvement. With a choice of Rule (same set up all month) or Focus (same gear, except one variable to assess the differences) do you have an idea what gear you'd use?
I don't often do Rules, but when my Connaught order arrives I think I'd benefit! I made the mistake of not getting tracking so ETA is unknown, but hoped for by the end of the next week.
